Program Overview for Climate:

At WRI India’s Climate Program, we focus on integrated solutions that enable a low-carbon transition in India while ensuring that the transition is equitable and just for its people and protects natural resources. We seek to achieve impact at scale through applied research, frameworks, tools, partnerships with key stakeholders, and ground-level implementation.

Position Overview:

The Climate Program at WRI India is seeking a dynamic candidate to advance the program’s engagement with the industry and the private sector. The program aims to catalyze low-carbon industrial growth by working on topics ranging from corporate decarbonization strategies to value chain engagement, GHG reporting and management, science-based targets, sectoral decarbonization roadmaps, and carbon pricing.

How your day will unfold:

The selected candidate will undertake a range of tasks as listed below:

  • Conduct research, on-ground engagement, and activities to support emissions reductions in the industrial clusters and corporate sector.
  • Identify key stakeholders and conduct consultations to understand their needs and priorities.
  • Stay up-to-date with the rules, procedures, and guidance on GHG measurement and management related to the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, Scope 2 Guidance, and Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.
  • Possess a fundamental understanding of rules, procedures, and guidance related to science-based targets and internal carbon pricing.
  • Stay up to date on local and global emerging technologies, industry shifts, best practices, and policies that will affect the industry sector and MSMEs.
  • Identify low-carbon solutions, including a range of measures such as energy conservation, energy efficiency, fuel switch, and clean energy adoption, and undertake analyses to identify the business case for their adoption.
  • Communicate and engage effectively with the industry to adopt low-carbon solutions.
  • Support the implementation of training programs to meet the project objectives & deliver impact.
  • Document activities and learnings from the project's initiatives.
  • Provides research assistance to develop project-relevant knowledge products, publications, case studies, blogs, articles, and other communication documents.
  • Under the guidance of the reporting manager, assist in tracking deliverables, coordinating with partners and stakeholders, monitoring and evaluation activities, and other daily task management activities.
  • Assist in organizing internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, and other dissemination activities.
  • Should be open to extensive travel.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Graduate degree in Engineering/Science/Technology/ Environment or any other relevant background.
  • At least 2 – 4 years of relevant experience in projects related to industrial decarbonization and corporate climate action work.
  • Understanding advanced concepts of science-based targets and Internal Carbon Pricing is desirable.
  • Excellent qualitative and/or quantitative research and writing skills.
  • Experience in building capacity and conducting training on the ground.
  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience in decarbonization and mitigation-related projects in the industrial sector.
  • Experience working with state government agencies, academia, NGO/CSOs, and the private sector.
  • Experience conducting financial and cost-benefit analyses is desirable.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively in conversation and writing.
  • Resourceful, enthusiastic, and action-oriented.
  • Willingness to travel to project locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Salary and Benefits:

INR 8,00,00-9,00,000

Duration: 1 year (extendable based on performance and project requirements)

Location: New Delhi/ Mumbai.

Start Date: At the earliest.
