UN Women contributes to the implementation of African Union’s Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA-2024) , among others, through its continental flagship program, the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI). The African Girls Can CODE Initiative (AGCCI), a partnership between UN Women, Africa Union Commission (AUC) and International Telecommunications Union (ITU) aims to train and empower a young girls aged between 17-20, across Africa to become computer programmers, creators and designers, placing them on track to take up studies and careers in the information, communication and technology (ICT) sector.

In the context of the AGCCI, through a biennial project, UN Women in partnership with the African Union Commission and the Government of Belgium aims to support the coordination of the project activities in five selected countries including 3 French speaking countries (Burundi, Niger and Mali), on English speaking country (Tanzania) and one Portuguese speaking country (Mozambique). More concretely, the partnership will support the organization of 10 coding camps in the five countries (2 camps per country) bringing together young girls of 17-25 years for a two weeks training. The partnership will further support the revitalization of the AGCCI online platform which will help girl coders to continuously update their skills and connect with a supportive online community to share ideas and opportunities.

It is in this context that UN Women Liaison to the AU and UNECA is seeking to recruit a Programme associate to provide necessary programmatic, operational and administrative support in close collaboration with the operations and program teams in Liaison and other country offices, UN Women Regional Office and HQs.

Within the delegated authority and under the mentoring and supervision of the Program Coordinator or her designated mandated representative, the Program Associate will:

1.Provide support to the implementation of the AGCCI programme

•Contribute to the preparation of programme work plans, budgets and proposals and programme implementation arrangements, •Assist the programme team in the drafting of Terms of Reference (TOR), call for proposals (CFP) and Internal Memos and related,
•Support with creating projects in Atlas, prepare budget revisions, revise project awards and status; and determine unutilized funds and the operational and financial close of a project, •Assist in drafting annual reports of the programme, •Support recruitment process of consultants and trainers, •Provide technical and administrative support to countries preparing coding camps, •Follow up with country focal persons on media campaign and the implementation of activities related to mainstreaming gender, coding and ICT in national curricula, •Support the drafting of correspondences including in French language to AGCCI countries, •Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  1. Provide administrative, financial and logistical assistance to the AGCCI programme

•Support all logistical, administrative and financial arrangements for the coordination of meetings, workshops, events, and missions, •Support in creating requisitions (ERQ) for procurements and process payments and register good receipts in Atlas, •Support with travel arrangements for the Programme Team, including travel requisitions and claims,
•Assist in providing briefing on operational policies, rules and procedures to partners, •Receive correspondence and articulate the response with counterparts.

  1. Support facilitating knowledge building and partnership

•Contribute to the documentation of lessons learnt and best practices related to programme management and finance, •Assist in organizing training for the program team and partners on programme and operations related issues, •Assist the team in holding regular programme team meetings and take minutes of the meetings, •Assist in dissemination of knowledge products generated under AGCCI programme portfolio.

(or demonstrated interest) in administrative and operational management of GEWE, human rights, advocacy, coordination, and partnership related projects and programs. •Good oral and written skills; drafting, formulation, reporting skills. •Computer literacy in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; •Self-motivated,; •Interest in gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s rights volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
