Overview

You have:

  • A university degree from an accredited educational institution in a school-related subject plus at least one year of professional teacher training Certification or higher diploma.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience, with at least three years as a teacher or trainer on education issues, and at least two years in a technical, administrative or managerial capacity.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic and English.
  • Desirable: Advanced degree or diploma in education leadership and management, curricula or teaching methodologies.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, and monitoring professional development programmes including School Based Professional Development approach and curricula reforms.

Org. Setting and Reporting

UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance. UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions. The incumbent of this post reports directly to the Head, Professional Development and Curriculum Unit.

Responsibilities

The incumbent: 1. Assists in promoting, establishing, and supporting the implementation of professional development programmes in order to disseminate best practices; 2. Contributes to the development, implementation and assessment of curriculum enrichment, and cross cutting curriculum issues including inclusive education, human rights, child wellbeing and gender; 3. Coordinates and provides professional training and curriculum support to relevant stakeholders, develops training materials for programmes/activities by utilizing various research methods and media such as DVD, CD and internet to effectively conduct training to develop stakeholders’ skills; 4. Is responsible for monitoring and assessing the impact of professional development and activities relevant to curricula at the field level and assures that his/her work is consistent with applicable rules and regulations, policies and programmes of UNRWA ; 5. Assists the supervisor in the development of the comprehensive professional development and curriculum plan for the field and provides the supervisor with feedback data from training and curricula activities in order to support the implementation of research-based theories and techniques of professional development programmes; 6. Contributes to the professional development and activities relevant to curricula and works collegially with peers to improve his/her practice; 7. Keeps up to date on knowledge and practice in the area of work including the latest research and studies on curriculum enrichment and teacher development by collaborating with local universities, community organizations and NGOs, attending their workshops, meetings and training exercises to gather ideas and develop best practices to incorporate into their training programmes/activities for UNRWA staff; 8. Assists in producing regular reports including an annual field report on professional development and curricula to improve learning; 9. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Conditions of service - Type of Contract: Fixed Term Appointment - Contract Type: Fixed Term Appointment for 3 years; including 1 year probation period, with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and continuing need Grade and Salary: Grade 15 Monthly basic salary USD1,592.60, payable in JD at UN monthly exchange rate.
