Overview

Enhance geo-statistical data acquisition and dissemination.

You have:

  • Ph.D. in Geographic Information Systems or related areas is required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in geographic information systems is required.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and related extensions including Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, and Geostatistical Analyst.
  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Online applications including ArcGIS Dashboards, Experience Builder, Story Maps.
  • Previous experience in capacity building and creating training manuals.
  • Proven hands-on experience in the production of geographic information products.
  • Experience in GIS related advisory and consulting work in the Arab region.
  • Strong GIS and analytical skills.
  • Experience in data integration and spatial ETL/FME.

Result of Service The focus is on enhancing geo-statistical data acquisition and dissemination and on showcasing user-centric analytical capabilities for capacity-building and integration activities.

Work Location Office (UN-House ESCWA)

Expected duration The duration of the assigned work is from 1 July 2022 to 31 March 2023 (9 months, part-time, 3 days per week)

Duties and Responsibilities GIS (Production, Data and Analytics) Consultant Cosnultant to be recruited for a project to promote the integration of social, economic, and environmental data and to fill in data gaps for estimating indicators on sustainable development goals in the Arab world.

Responsibilities: - Contribute to ESCWA's geo-statistical databases and portal applications. - Locate and identify regional, national, and subnational data. - Develop efficient data collection, analysis, and dissemination. - Design geostatistical databases. - Document the quality, accuracy, and consistency of data. - Implement geostatistical edits and imputation - Make recommendations on technical issues. - Help in the development of indicators. - Produce dashboards, charts, maps, and infographics. - Contribute to GIS capacity-building and training sessions. - Coordinate with partners and member states as a technical expert. - Facilitate information sharing between partners. - Participate in data validation.

Qualifications/special skills Competency: - Excellent planning and organizational skills. - Ability to work flexibly and under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Skills: - Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and related extensions including Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, and Geostatistical Analyst. - Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Online applications including ArcGIS Dashboards, Experience Builder, Story Maps Academic Qualifications: Ph.D. in Geographic Information System or related areas is required. Experience: - Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in geographic information systems is required. The following skills are desirable: - Previous experience in capacity building and creating training manuals - Proven hand on experience in the production of geographic information products. - Experience in GIS related advisory and consulting work in the Arab region - Strong GIS and analytical skills. - Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise - Experience in data collection (Questionnaire development, survey creation, data validation, data analysis) using ArcGIS Field Apps including ArcGIS Survey123 and Field Maps - Experience in data collection management - Experience in data integration and spatial ETL/FME - Experience in statistical concepts, sources, and methodologies Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English and Arabic is required.
