This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Within the terms of the organization’s delegated authority, and under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Provide support in soliciting and evaluating bids/proposals/quotations to ensure overall competitiveness, quality, and conformity to specified requirements;

• Plan procurement actions for assigned projects, which typically involve projects of a select group of technically complex commodities or services, or for a variety of goods and services of a general nature;

• Participate in the management and coordination of the activities in the Unit or area of responsibility in accordance with the UN Financial Regulations and Rules;

• Provide support in the review and analysis of technical specifications to ensure completeness, accuracy and competitive qualities, and identify optional courses of action;

• Participate in supporting global clients who need ad-hoc procurement support and take part in rendering full procurement support to the small clients who do not have procurement capacity;

• Assist staff in matters regarding procurement policies and procedures, technical specifications, pricing and product/service availability, as well as appropriate substitutes or alternative options to reduce costs;

• Provide support in developing vendor pre-qualifying criteria, identifying product sources and evaluating vendor performance with regards to quality, prices, delivery, equipment, etc.;

• Coordinate timely freight forwarding and delivery support to the clients to reduce the transit time while enhancing cost savings;

• Participate in the market and supplier research;

• Participate in the vendor outreach effort to increase procurement from developing countries and economies in transition countries;

• Prepare a variety of reports (e.g. Business Intelligence Reports), correspondence, and documents (i.e. purchase orders, contracts and amendments) on procurement-related matters;

governmental counterparts, including client Missions, the incumbent is strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and on-the-job training;

• Performs any other related duties as may be required.

Educational additional comments

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Commerce, Engineering, Law or other relevant discipline, or equivalent. Certification issued by a recognized professional procurement training institution is desirable

Experience remark

At least 3 years of professional experience in procurement contracting work in private industry or a government organization; relevant practical experience in the UN would be an asset. Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge

Computer skills: Excellent computer skills; proficiency in standard computer applications and databases (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, etc.).
