Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; women’s empowerment; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025 focus on integrated approaches to address the root causes of inequality. One of the lessons learned from the past decade is the need to enhance partnerships providing a key comparative advantage for UN Women leveraging its role as a leading champion for women and girls at the centre of the global architecture of gender equality. UN Women is a convener and supporter of multi-partner platforms, strategies and dialogues between governments, civil society, the private sector and other stakeholders, to build broad-based support for the gender equality agenda. UN Women is broadening and expanding existing partnerships, with a continuous increased focus on strengthened relationships with the private sector and the International Financing Institutions (IFIs), as well as think thanks and research institutions.

Under the leadership of Private Sector Partnerships consultant, UN Women is looking to recruit a junior consultant to support the work of the office in enhancing and deepening ongoing initiatives with the Nordic private sector and the financial institutions in the Nordic countries for deepened collaboration and accelerated action on gender equality in the context of UN Women initiatives as well for longer-term engagement across UN Women’s portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Junior Consultant will support the expansion and strengthening of relationships with the Nordic private sector and the Nordic Development Finance Institutions and contribute to the development of enhanced collaboration with identified partners.

The objective of the consultancy is fourfold:

(i) Support the the strategic engagement with the Nordic private sector, both for strategic partnerships as well as for resource mobilization;

(ii) Support the establishment of a Technical Assistance Facility on Gender for Nordic DFIs

(iii) Support the gender-lens investment tools and sustainable financing follow-up with Nordic issuers and investors; and

(iiii) Support the work of the private sector consultant in background analysis and research

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

Provide support to the strategic engagement with Nordic private sector and Nordic Development Finance Institutions

  1. Support the formulation and establishment of a Technical Assistance Facility for innovative financing.
  2. Support the ongoing engagement with the Nordic development funds.
  3. Support the engagement with Nordic private sector actors on gender bonds, including supporting communication with new or established partners.
  4. Support the structuring of private sector partnership documents and summaries.

    Analytical background support for the Nordic Liaison Office

  5. Provide support to background analysis of prospective partners, including for due diligence processes and in writing background notes for meetings and events

  6. Provide support to advocacy and communication addressing strategic partners
  7. Provide support to relevant administrative tasks related to the private sector and innovative financing engagement.

Technical support to capacity building

  1. Introduce ongoing planning processes of events and high-level meetings and provide support on dialogues with colleagues involved in these processes.

  3. Conduct training in holding presentations for visitors to UN City and UN Women Nordic Liaison Office

Deliverables:

Provide support to partnerships with the Nordic private sector and Nordic Development Finance Institutions

  1. Support the office in establishing a Technical Assistance Facility on Gender for Nordic DFIs and related MOU with Finnfund including relevant research and background analysis, scheduling meetings, taking meeting notes and related communication activities.
  2. Support the office in the strategic engagement with Nordic actors on gender bonds and sustainable financing, including relevant background research and analysis, scheduling meetings, taking meeting notes and related communication activities.

Analytical background support for the Nordic Liaison Office

  1. Support the office in conducting background analysis and prepare meeting and events, including support to drafting briefing packages, talking points, and logistics.
  2. Support the office in communication activities related to private sector partnerships
  3. Support the office in data analysis and restructuring partnership documents and summaries on the M drive
  4. Support the office in administrative tasks
  5. Train and provide technical support on administrative issues including drafting of briefing packages, talking-points, presentations, managing Outlook, M:drive navigation, set-up zoom or teams meetings etc

Required Skills and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Political Science, International Development, Gender Studies or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and advocating on gender issues.
  • Experience in planning and organizing complex events.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting high-level events such as annual consultations.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting engagement with the Nordic private sector, Nordic Development Finance Institutions, or similar.
  • Experience working with the UN an advantage.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in the English language required, with strong, confident command of both written and oral English. Fluency in Danish, Norwegian, Finnish or Swedish required
