Education Cannot Wait (ECW) provides partners, on the ground in emergency situations, resources that can be allocated in a flexible, swift and responsive manner, and over a period sufficient to accelerate and support education delivery for Children and youth. As such, one of the main five objectives of ECW as highlighted in the 2018-2021 Strategic Plan, is to increase finance for education in crisis to allow for sufficient investments to improve access, quality, and continuity of learning for all children.

How can you make a difference?

Under the leadership of the Chief of Strategic Partnerships, and considering the strategic priority to increase private sector participation in bridging the financial gap for delivering education in emergencies and protracted crises, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and managing activities to promote the engagement of the Private sector in ECW and to contribute to developing ground-breaking financing mechanisms, approaches and partnerships which can be hardwired into the Fund's design.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Develop, implement and evaluate an ECW framework for private sector fundraising, engagement and partnerships (as part of the ECW Resource Mobilization and Partnerships strategy).

Duties:

  • Regularly update on the opportunities in the primary donor markets impacting fundraising, partnerships and other forms of engagement with the private sector,
  • Work closely with colleagues and partners to proactively identify, develop, and pursue potential new strategic partnerships especially with major donors, foundations, and multinational corporations.
  • Explore and develop new global fundraising, engagement and partnerships initiatives, e.g. digital, Islamic Finance, thematic funding, matching funds, multi-stakeholder platforms, etc.
  • Develop a communication and advocacy/marketing strategy and assets with the private sector partners and explore opportunities to enhance ECW visibility in this sector.
  • Manage planning, budgeting and implementation of activities related to private sector engagements (individuals, foundations, corporate, faith and community groups etc.);
  1. Develop and manage ECW’s strategic partnerships with major donors, foundations, and multinational corporations, in order to maximize resources and support for ECW Investments to achieve the fund objectives.

Duties:

  • Develop a work plan (after implementing the appropriate market research) for the formulation and implementation of an effective strategy to major donors, foundations, and multinational corporations in the primary markets (North America, Europe, Gulf Countries, and East Asia.
  • Ensure approaches and private sector leads are competitive and relevant to help achieve ECW’s goals for partnerships and resource mobilization for Education in Emergencies and protracted Crises.
  • Manage existing partnerships with major donors, foundations, and multinational corporations, ensuring optimal stewardship of the relationships with such donors.
  • Keep up to date with latest developments in the global resource mobilization environment, with a focus on major donors, foundations, and multinational corporations, philanthropists, high net worth individuals, primarily in developed countries while also providing technical backstopping and support to partners in countries where ECW is implementing programmes.
  • Prepares business cases, including sound and concrete proposals for consideration, and develops tailored outreach, information and communications products for partners;
  • Organize high-level events and other activities for ECW to engage with the private sector and other non-traditional donors.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: social sciences, business administration, management, Corporate Social Responsibility marketing, fundraising or another relevant technical field.
  • A first level university degree in a relevant field combined with ten (10) years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years relevant and progressively responsible professional work experience including private sector fundraising, philanthropy, and corporate social responsibility / sustainability is required.
  • Extensive and proven experience working in an international context and delivering fundraising programmes across multiple countries with demonstrable insights into global opportunities and challenges.
  • Extensive and recent experience and proven track record in private sector fundraising (within the last five years) with a comprehensive understanding of all main private sector fundraising techniques (digital, direct mail, legacies, monthly giving, press advertising, major donors, corporate and foundations fundraising, events)
  • At least three (3) years of proven managerial experience in leading technical teams.
  • Knowledge of ECW’s activities, operations and services (desirable)
  • Knowledge of the realities of delivering education, child protection, and other human development services in Emergencies and Protracted Contexts, refugee and displacement issues and their implications (desirable)
  • Familiarity with United Nations administration/financial policies and human resources practices (desirable).
  • Awareness of international development cooperation landscape and trends is considered an asset.
