Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Part of the Strategic Partnerships Division, the Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships and Advisory Services Section (MPAS) brings together UN Women’s multi-stakeholder initiatives through various partnership engagement. It convenes Private Partnerships, HeForShe, Individual, Digital and Public Giving, the Unstereotype Alliance and the Women’s Empowerment Principles |WE EMPOWER-G7 and seeks to ensure that these are complementary and synergistic. MPAS is the driver of UN Women’s corporate engagement with the private sector both in terms of substantive partnership and resource mobilization, as well as leveraging the range of UN Women’s partnership vehicles and its National Committees to achieve maximum impact for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

MPAS and the Private Partnerships team also has a coordination role as the technical lead on private sector engagement within and across UN Women, in order to build and promote a holistic, “One UN Women” approach to the private sector. This involves developing knowledge products and business intelligence on key private sector entities; researching background on history of engagement and partnership in alignment with Due Diligence; and providing technical expertise and advisory services to all colleagues engaging with private sector entities across the agency, including UN Women Regional, Country and Liaison Offices, as well as with UN Women National Committees, for partnership, resource mobilization and advocacy purposes.

Under the supervision of the Resource Mobilization Specialist, the Private Sector Coordination and Due Diligence Consultant will focus on tasks aimed to developing UN Women due diligence, risk assessments and business intelligence, improved knowledge management on UN Women’s private sector engagement, and supporting UN Women’s capacity-building across the organization to develop risk-informed engagements with the private sector.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to MPAS Private Sector Engagement (PSE) and Due Diligence functions
  • PSE Coordination: Provide technical support to developing and maintaining the MPAS Community of Practice, an online mechanism and platform for effective knowledge sharing on private sector engagement across UN Women HQ, Regional Offices and Country Offices
  • Research and Analysis: Develop and maintain business intelligence on current UN Women partners
  • Support on private sector engagement as needed.

Deliverables:

  • Develop 3 new Business Intelligence profiles, with a focus on UN Women’s historical and current top 15 private sector partners by February 2024
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings in Q3, Q4 of 2023 and Q1 of 2024 of HQ-Regional Partnerships Focal points to promote knowledge exchange and best practices for private sector engagement and partnerships
  • Provide technical assistance requests for Due Diligence analysis and partnership engagement history from across UN Women HQ, Regional Offices and Country Offices, including support to two Due Diligence/Private Sector Engagement capacity-building webinars
  • Serve as technical focal point for Due Diligence requests for UN Women National Committees
  • Contribute to drafting two editions of the UN Women Private Sector Partnerships newsletter including the integration of inputs from across UN Women HQ, Regional Offices and Country Offices, and ensuring the proper dissemination of tools, updates and news regarding private sector partnerships internally
  • Maintain MPAS Intranet and Community of Practice pages updated, including monitoring the MPAS Support and Due Diligence Help Desk email inboxes

Required Skills and Experience

Required Qualifications, Experience and skills:

  • Master’s Degree in international relations, law, business, gender studies, economics, public policy or similar is required
  • At least 2 years of experience in partnerships, private sector engagement and/or business intelligence is required
  • Familiarity with private sector engagement, UN Women National Committees and/or partner organizations is considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of gender equality and women's rights issues is considered an asset;
  • Excellent research & analysis skills with experience synthesizing and summarizing;
  • Communication and media plans an asset.
  • Strong IT literacy in standard applications is mandatory (Excel, Word, PowerPoint,etc) and Sharepoint, MailChimp considered an asset
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills

Language:

Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
