  • Experience with Asana (web app designed to organize, track, and manage) is a plus.
  • Intern will need to supply his/her own home workspace, computer, internet access, etc.

Job Description

TITLE: Pre-Award Grants Management Intern LOCATION: 100% Remote START DATE: January 2022 DURATION: 4 months; 10-12 Hours Per Week; Opportunity to Renew

BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 US cities to restore safety, dignity, and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 28 offices across the US ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: This internship is an excellent opportunity for a current graduate/undergraduate student to gain exposure to the operations of a large international organization while using Grant Management concepts and practices in an applied, real-world way.

The Pre-Award Grants Management Intern will work closely with the Grants Specialist on three initiatives. The first is on building and maintaining a pre-award and prospecting database. The second is to work closely with the Grants Specialist and MEAL Coordinator to develop a central resource document that houses standard and relevant proposal data that can be shared across departments and updated regularly. The third initiative is to draft proposal resources based on collected internal and external data. For instance, creating an Office Proposal Calendar that visualizes upcoming proposals and application deadlines in the grant pipeline. During this internship, innovative ideas, tools, and methods to increase efficiency will be welcomed and encouraged.

RESPONSIBILITIES: (Scope could be further tailored depending on the final match of intern-to-opportunity)

- Research best practices for assigned topics. - Work closely with the Grants Specialist to review a prospecting strategy, grow a database for opportunities identified, and conduct ongoing research related to the pre-award grant processes. - Create communication and tracking documents in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. - Work closely with the Grants Specialist and MEAL Coordinator to establish a central resource document that houses relevant and common proposal data that can be shared across departments and updated regularly. - Develop and streamline a proposal calendar to visualize pipeline items cohesively. This will involve coordination between program staff. - Provide support as needed in other areas of identified projects.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. Student will gain experience in grant management, which is a crucial skill to move up in the non-profit sector. 2. Student will learn more about the pre-award process for building a funding portfolio in a non-profit. 3. Student will learn the basics of proposal development and play a key role in ensuring proactive responses to business development needs. 4. Student will develop an in-depth understanding of IRC Resettlement, Asylum, & Integration programming. 5. Student will gain experience with drafting material for purposes of internal marketing and communications of aligned projects.
