This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Technical Officer for Platforms/Dashboards or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV PowerBi Expert will:

  • Asses the dashboard/ report including the data source, data model, DAX measures, DAX expression, visualization and presentation and ensure that best practices are implemented
  • Check the data source and ensure that the data import, transformation, and refreshing time are optimized
  • Check the data model and provide recommendation for optimal data model and relations
  • Check the measures and DAX expression and ensure that the measurements are sufficient to calculate the needed values
  • Asses the dashboard/ report and ensure that right visuals are used, else change or make recommendations to change the visuals.
  • Ensure that right colors and placement are used, and the dashboard is conveying the right information and message
  • For dashboards that are slow or perform poorly, the expert will identify the root cause. It can be an issue with the data model, a DAX expression may be slow, or there may be another problem. The expert to investigate the issue and then fix the problem.
  • Provide technical advice to integrate the dashboard to other exiting platform within the organization.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. Computer science, Software Engineering, or area related to Programming or data analysis and visualization.

Required experience:

60 Months

Experience remark:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. Computer science, Software Engineering, or area related to Programming or data analysis and visualization.
  • At least 5 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in programming, data analysis, data visualization, or other relevant programmes; experience with UN is an asset, or other international development organization;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in WHO, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge

Area of expertise:

Database design, administration and maintenance, Geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing, Web and graphic design

Area of expertise details:

- Work experience at the national and/or international level in programming, data analysis, data visualization, , or other relevant programmes;

- Previous experience as Power Bi highly recommended.
