Job Description

TITLE: Post-Award Grants Management Intern LOCATION: 100% Remote START DATE: January 2022 DURATION: 4 months; 10-12 Hours Per Week; Opportunity to Renew

BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 US cities to restore safety, dignity, and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 28 offices across the US ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: This internship is an excellent opportunity for a current graduate/undergraduate student to gain exposure to the operations of a large international organization while using Grant Management concepts and practices in an applied, real-world way.

The Post-Award Grants Management Intern will work closely with the Grants Specialist on three initiatives. The first is building and maintaining post-award grant management, including reporting, database, and material support. The second is to work closely with the Grants Specialist and MEAL Coordinator to develop a central resource document that houses grant summary sheets for each department, with activities and programs shared across departments and updated regularly. The third is an initiative to create concept notes for each program that are both client and donor-facing. These concept notes will increase referral pathways between programs and increase the visibility of IRC San Diego programing. During this internship, innovative ideas, tools, and methods to increase efficiency will be welcomed and encouraged. RESPONSIBILITIES: (Scope could be further tailored depending on the final match of intern-to-opportunity)

- Research best practices for assigned topics. - Work closely with the Grants Specialist to review and update the post-award grant management strategy. - Update proposal resources based on collected internal and external data. Resources may include the reporting database and other post-award materials. - Create communication and tracking documents in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Work closely with the Grants Specialist and MEAL Coordinator to build out and maintain Grant Summary Sheets for each program, including all operations in operation. This catalog will support the third initiative of this internship described below. - Develop one-page concept notes for each program, involving coordination between program staff and updating of information. This will result in the creative design of materials that will be distributed among clients, donors, community partners, and internal IRC Staff. This effort will increase the efficiency of internal referrals and increase the visibility of IRC programming in the community. - Provide support as needed in other areas of the identified projects

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. Student will gain experience in grant management, which is a crucial skill to move up in the non-profit sector. 2. Student will learn more about the post-award process for building a funding portfolio in a non-profit. 3. Student will learn the basics of proposal development and play a key role in ensuring proactive responses to business development needs. 4. Student will develop an in-depth understanding of IRC Resettlement, Asylum, & Integration programming. 5. Student will practice graphic design through developing materials that will be shared across a diverse range of stakeholders. 6. Student will gain experience with drafting material for purposes of internal marketing and communications of aligned projects.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

- Currently enrolled graduate student or undergraduate student in a related field of International Relations/Development, Social Work, Global Human resources, Learning and Development; Non-Profit Management, International Business or related field - Comfort with research, organizing content, and liaising with staff - Strong writing skills and graphic design experience - Excellent organization skills, strong communication, and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively. - Ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs - English fluency required - Experience with Asana (web app designed to organize, track, and manage) is a plus

This position reports to the Grants Specialist.
