Volunteering

Overview

Assist in knowledge management and communication activities for UNFPA.

You have:

• Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
• Knowledge of French, Arabic, or Spanish is an advantage.
• Proven organizational skills in complex, multi-national work environments adhering to key performance indicators.
• Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.
• Design and editing skills using the Adobe Creative Suite or comparable tools are desirable.

Contract

This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Chief, Population and Development Branch, the International UN Volunteer will:

• Collaborate with the Knowledge Management and Communications Specialist on the integration of the Centre of Excellence for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems (CoE)’ Knowledge Hub on CRVS into the UNFPA communications platforms;
• Collaborate on the integration of the CoE Knowledge Briefs into the UNFPA environment
• Regularly draft articles, social media and community posts and other story formats for UNFPA’s internal and external communications channels;
• Support the design, editing and publication of UNFPA thematic and technical publications on civil registration, vital statistics and legal identity;
• Support the logistics for digital and in-person public events and expert group meetings;
• Support the development, packaging and implementation of online training courses and materials on CRVS and population data, including application of new technologies to the development of online courses and materials in collaboration with UNFPA staff and webmasters;
• Support implementation of online learning activities such as facilitating lecture recording sessions, preparing online discussions and coordinating and hosting webinars;
• Develop Quality Assurance mechanisms to course development and implementation as needed;
• Create and upload new learning and institutional content to the eLearning platform, including courses modules, materials, etc.;
• Support ad-hoc translations from/into English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian.
• Assist UNFPA technical staff in facilitating capacity building workshops and data laboratories for officials from National Statistics Offices and civil registration authorities;
• Contribute to routine and ad-hoc discussions and meetings within UNFPA on civil registration, vital statistics and legal identity;
• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Experience remark

• Expertise in knowledge management, communications and social media;
• Excellent writing skills, and synthesizing research/policy reports for multiple audiences;
• Prior international work experience in knowledge management or media and communications is desirable;
• Proven organizational skills in complex, multi-national work environments adhering to key performance indicators;
• Ability to think creatively and bring forward new approaches and ideas

• Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
