The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) was established by Security Council resolution 2476 and is mandated to promote and strengthen political stability and good governance in Haiti; including the rule of law, preserving and advancing a peaceful and stable environment, supporting an inclusive inter-Haitian national dialogue, and protecting and promoting human rights. The Political Affairs Officer will be based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and within delegated authority the incumbent will report to the Senior Political Affairs Officer under the overall supervision of the Principal Political / Good Governance Officer.
Responsibilities
Within the limits of delegated authority, the Political Affairs Officer: •Monitors latest trends and developments in the area of assignment and provides inputs on issues to senior management. •Drafts clearly and succinctly in preparing briefing notes, talking points and official documents in coordination with other substantive offices and UN agencies, funds and programs. •Provides technical and substantive back up in the implementation of mandates of the office. •Systemizes and archives all documents and background information on related mandate developments in official UN online platform. •Assist in operational and budget planning and performs other related duties as required.

Experience in political outreach, facilitation, analysis, providing advice and reporting is required. Experience working in a United Nations common system field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions and UN agencies, funds, and programmes), or similar international organization or non-governmental organization, in a conflict or post - conflict setting is required. Experience in drafting diverse specialized reports for Mission and UNHQ leadership, experience preparing analytical papers on a wide variety of subjects and issues in diverse thematic areas, of varying degrees of complexity; experience drafting code cables, talking points, briefing notes is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both English and French is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
