More about P-4 contracts and their salaries.Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the United Nations Operations and Crisis Centre (UNOCC) and reports to the Head of the Research and Liaison Unit.
The UNOCC is a multi-party entity reporting to the ASG for Strategic Coordination of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG), through the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unite (EOSG/SPMU) and, on peacekeeping matters, with oversight from the USG for Peace Operations, through the Director for Coordination and Shared Services (ODCSS). The UNOCC also receives strategic oversight from a Client Board of principals from each of the client entities. UNOCC provides global situational awareness crisis and risk management, as well as facilitates cross-pillar analysis and decision-making in the UN. It is operationally positioned under the ODCSS between the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and the Department of Peace Operations.
Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Political Affairs Officer is responsible for the following duties:
•Assist Head of RLU in coordinating day-to-day responsibilities of RLU, including establishing priorities and setting deadlines for RLU-driven products.
•Assist Head of RLU in directing, supervising and ensuring the accuracy and timely production of RLU mid-term/long-term special research projects/products.
•Assist head of RLU in providing integrated decision-making support to senior UN officials (mainly EOSG ASGs and Directors and Executive Committee/Deputies Committee members) through the provision of, inter alia, in-depth research, quantitative and qualitative analysis, data analytics, infographics as well as effective coordination and liaison services.
- Ensure the accurate and timely dissemination of RLU's analytical products. Prepare assessments of political, operational and security trends that affect current and potential peace operations or any emerging crisis in the world including research on relevant thematic issues.
•Brief visitors to the UNOCC on the functions and products of the RLU.
•Together with the Head of RLU and in close collaboration with the UNOCC Information Management Unit, contribute to the development of a wider UNOCC research, information and analytical capability by providing input on new research tools and sources of information, as well as testing and developing databases for trend analysis.
•In close collaboration with the Head of RLU, select interns and ensure the supervision, coordination and prioritization of the work of the interns assigned to the RLU. Encourage the training and general learning development of interns in their contributions to the daily routines of the UNOCC.
•Serves as Office-in-Charge in the absence of the Coordination Officer (Head).

Education Advanced University Degree (Master's equivalent degree), preferably in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, or related fields. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in international relations, development or conflict resolution work at national and international levels is required.
