Org. Setting and Reporting .This position is located in the Office of the Deputy Head of Mission of the United Nations Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA). The incumbent will be based in Aden\ Sana'a, Yemen and will report to the Senior Political Affairs Officer.

UNMHA was established by Security Council resolution 2452 (2019) and is mandated to support the implementation of the Agreement on the City of Hodeidah and Ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa as set out in the Stockholm Agreement.

Responsibilities Within the limits of delegated authority, the Political Affairs Officer will be responsible for performing the following duties: - Collects, evaluates and analyzes information related to developments/events relevant to the implementation of the Mission mandate, using a variety of sources, including UNMHA mission components, the UNCT, national and local military/civilian authorities, international community, NGOs, media and other key stakeholders. - Writes daily and weekly reports on relevant political and other developments in Sana'a - Develops effective working relationships with UNMHA mission components, the UNCT and relevant external actors and organizations. - Produces accurate and timely integrated analysis, assessments, maps, and other products which support decision-making, policy development and planning by Mission leadership. - Provides briefings to the Mission leadership, senior UN staff and visiting delegations as required. - Coordinates, as required, actions related to the delivery of the mission's mandate including through liaising with local authorities, bilateral donors and other national and international organizations, with a view to realizing greater synergy and coordination. - Coordinates with other Mission components as required - Performs other duties, as assigned.

Education An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in Political Science, Management or Development, or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Professional training in the areas of planning, facilitation and/or coordination is desirable.

Work Experience A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, diplomacy, conflict resolution, or related area is required.

Extensive experience in political outreach, facilitation, analysis, advice and reporting is required.

A minimum of three years of experience serving with the United Nations or other comparable international organization is required.

Two years of experience in a United Nations special political mission or peacekeeping operation is highly desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic, the official language in Yemen, is also required.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice - This position is temporarily available for a period of six (6) months. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
