What you will do:

  • Ensure Iraq’s Advocacy Strategy is mainstreamed into programming.
  • Strengthen NRC's prioritized advocacy and policy response to the Iraq context with relevant Iraqi counterparts, donors and in coordination with NRC’s regional, Head Office and Representation Offices
  • Provide timely and context specific research and information to internal and external stakeholders, keeping systematic tracking system of the communication exchanges with main counterparts.
  • Support Advocacy Manager in the production of public and private briefs and reports.
  • Develop and Expand relationships with national counterparts in the humanitarian community, thought leaders and agencies in Iraq to strengthen advocacy response in accordance with NRC country strategy to support people in need.
  • Deliver against donor deliverables for ongoing projects in close collaboration with the Advocacy Manager.
  • Organize trainings at each area level to support the upstreaming of advocacy priorities into programming, including advocacy priorities related to humanitarian transition in service of durable solutions.
  • Stay abreast of all local, regional and international advocacy and policy initiatives on Iraq relevant to NRC. Actively engage in collective advocacy work on Iraq through NCCI and support CO engagement with the international community, humanitarian actors including Iraqi civil society, and with the authorities.
  • Work closely with monitoring and evaluation staff in service of information management and data collection, for use in media and advocacy products
  • Any other task as assigned and agreed upon with supervisor.

Professional Competencies and Qualifications Required

These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.

  • Masters in International Affairs, law, public policy or international relations
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a humanitarian context.
  • Strong grasp of humanitarian and protection principles
  • Demonstrated command over research and policy work
  • Experience working in complex and volatile contexts. Knowledge of the humanitarian and political context in Iraq and the Middle East is required.
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Strong representation and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal. Knowledge of Arabic and Kurdish a plus
  • Valid driver’s license

Contract duration: 12 months

Travel: 40%
