****Who are we?****

Advocacy, Press & External Communication is part of DRC’s department for Programme, Policy & External Relations (PPE). PPE is responsible for DRC’s global programme policies and quality assurance and drives global advocacy, press & external communication efforts and is responsible for high-level global strategic partnerships, engagement and global fundraising.

The responsibility of DRC’s Advocacy, Press and External Communication team includes ensuring that the wealth of evidence generated across our 40 operations is utilised for transformational change. The team is responsible for facilitating a prominent position for advocacy and external engagement of DRC, ensuring that DRC’s global policy influencing, and advocacy efforts are aligned, well-governed, evidence-informed and principled in order to proactively influence policy at all levels – national, regional and global.

****About the job****

As a Policy Advisor in DRC’s Advocacy, Press and External Communication team, you will be working to ensure that DRC develops, coordinates, and implements a global advocacy strategy that leads to changes in perceptions, policies and programmatic responses that benefit people affected by forced displacement. Furthermore, you will be supporting DRC’s high-level external engagement by coordinating and developing briefing notes as well as advising on advocacy positions. We are a small team, but you will have daily interactions with peers and colleagues across the organisation as well as collaborate closely with external stakeholders globally.

The team works closely with the Secretary General and the senior leadership across the organisation. You will report directly to the Director for Advocacy, Press & External Communication who reports to the Executive Director for Programme, Policy & External Relations (PPE).

The main areas of responsibility of the policy advisors to which you will contribute are the following:

1) Responsible for supporting and coordinating DRC’s high level global engagements

  • Provide advice and support to the external engagement of DRC’s Secretary General and Executive Director for Programme, Policy & External Relations, including the coordination and preparation of speaking points, briefing notes and engagement plans.
  • Advise on and coordinate DRC’s participation in key global policy processes, conferences and events.
  • Follow selected policy agendas within the field of forced displacement and the humanitarian and development area.
  • Work closely with DRC’s representations in Brussels and Geneva on relevant policy issues and high-level engagement.

2) Supporting DRC’s advocacy engagement

  • Lead the development and facilitate the implementation of the global advocacy strategy.
  • Engage DRC’s country and regional offices in relevant policy areas.
  • Support advocacy engagement in the Danish context and vis-à-vis Danish stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain policies and guidelines for advocacy products, sign-off, high-level engagement etc.

  • Support the development of country- and region-specific advocacy strategies.

3) Coordinating DRC’s Global Advocacy Network

  • Maintain, engage, and nurture DRC’s global advocacy network with advocacy functions at country and regional levels.
  • Coordinate and facilitate engagement of the network in DRCs global advocacy engagements.
  • Maintain an overview of key advocacy priorities across regions, and a repository of advocacy strategies, plans and products.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • A relevant master’s degree
  • 5 years of experience with humanitarian, development, or displacement issues
  • Experience in working with strategic advocacy and advocacy strategies and plans
  • Knowledge of the international humanitarian system
  • Experience from INGOs, international or government organisations
  • Excellent writing skills in English
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines

Desirable

  • Experience in training delivery
  • Experience in drafting policy papers

****We Offer****

Contract length: Permanent contract (the position is subject to continued funding being available).

Workplace: Borgergade 10, Copenhagen, Denmark

Start date: 1st January 2023 or as soon as possible after.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and AC. The position is at “fuldmægtig” level. This is contractually a national position for which local terms and conditions apply (relocation or housing allowance is not offered for this role)
