BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian internationa lNGOs provides relief, rehabilitation, and development support to vulnerable people and communities over 30 countries. We began work in Ethiopia in 2000 in response to severe drought in Ethiopia’s Somali region and are currently providing assistance to Ethiopians and refugees in six regions in Ethiopia, implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.

Job Overview:

With the supervision of the Senior EH Officer, the Plumber will be responsible for the installation of water supply system pipes, fittings and make sure accurate anchorage of the pipelines. The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: Serve as a main technical focal point for activities related to pipe and fittings installed on the water supply systems including pipes at distribution network, reservoirs, generator/pump station, and at tap stands.

Major Responsibilities:

- Assist officers to prepare detailed specifications including item description, and quantity of pipes, fittings vital to install the water supply systems - Assist water technician and EH officer to install pumps and generators. - Install and ensure accurate operation of valves and fittings at pressure line, distribution systems, tap stands, and water storage tanks. - Supervise sites for any support and correction for new installations and maintenances as well as support follow-up PIP activities - Keep records of used/installed pipes, fittings, and other materials and report to the SEHO - Prepare progress reports and keep update to the supervisor - Ensure distribution and pressure pipes are accurately laid and covered with soil as per desired and standard depths. - Ensure that the pipes are anchored on the hard proven ground surface, and gorges with accurate alignment and level. - Ensure the construction of valve chambers for valves and branches (isolating valves, water meters, and branches at ground level). - Install pipeline for handwashing facilities connected with nearby water supply distribution systems pipeline, fixing all necessary inlet and outlet fittings of the water storage tanks and hand washing basin at the selected locations for pedal operating Institutional/public handwashing facilities. - Ensures distribution of pipes, fittings and valves and other devices as per the distribution list, recording and reporting. - Identify & provide detailed pipes, fittings, and valves required for maintenance of the Institutional/public handwashing facilities and provide the list to the Senior EH Officer, to facilitate timely procurement of the materials. - Support and facilitate pipeline trench excavation and ensure the quality and the standard of the organization work procedure. - Keep recordings of pipes and related tools, works, and materials distributions with tracking the proper installation at site level. - Any additional duty assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

- TEVET Diploma or certificate in plumbing or related field

Education Requirement:

- 2 years of relevant experience by TVET certificate in Plumbing or related field. - 1 year of relevant working experience by TEVET Diploma in plumbing or related field. - NGO experience is a plus.

Preferred experience & skills:

- Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints. - Good communication and social skills. - Understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems - Good experience of computer skills & Microsoft Office.

Language Skills: Amharic, English and local language is advantageous.
