Org. Setting and Reporting

The position is located within the Field Engineering Office in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo with duty station, Kinshasa. The Plumber reports to the Head Water and Sanitation Unit in Field Engineering Office.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the incumbent will perform the following duties: 1. Supports, installs and maintains all plumbing systems such as water supply lines, plumbing fixtures in the relevant units such as ablution units and wastewater collection and distribution lines as well as fuel lines at generators installation sites; 2. Re-constructs/ renovates water and sewerage systems such as: pipelines, manholes, storm water drainage systems and leach-fields; 3. Installs water pumps when required; 4. Prepares material requests and makes assessment of plumbing materials required for construction/repairs/renovation and prepares material requests for the required work and implements all safety measures as proposed by the supervisor; 5. Assists in the direction and assignment of works received; 6. Assists with operations and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants; 7. Assists in performance monitoring of water equipment in the field, including water distribution supply lines and water storage tanks; 8. Assists with troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of fault of water and sanitation systems; 9. Assists in carrying out scheduled periodic and emergency maintenance services on all the installations and equipment; 10. Performs other duties, as required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

Valid driving license is required. Technical training certificate in plumbing from a recognized institute or proven on the job training with an institution/ organization in plumbing and related works is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of three (03) years of progressively responsible experience as a Plumber is required. Experience in operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plant is desirable. Experience in UN peacekeeping or other field operations is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in French, (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of English is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise or competency-based interview or both.
