This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Monitoring and reporting activities:

• Provide guidance and technical support to partners on monitoring and reporting.

• Develop reporting and indicator guidance to partners and inter-agency groups.

• Compile, clean and analyse monitoring data for governmental and non-governmental partners

• Create monitoring reports, monthly reports and donor reports, develop any other related reports if required.

• Support and provide technical assistance to develop logical frameworks for programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

• Help strengthen child protection networks on the ground, providing capacity building and support to such networks to ensure systems for gathering and verifying information on gross child rights violations are implemented and strengthened; participate in Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism working group at field level.

Planning and capacity building support:

• Liaise with UNICEF child protection programme staff and partners to prepare planning and monitoring plans.

• Support the Section in development of internal work plans and other key planning exercises.

• Support the Child Protection section in harmonizing capacity building interventions for both government partners and non-governmental organizations.

• Contribute towards preparation of the situation analysis by compiling data, analysing and evaluating information and writing chapters of the analysis related to the Child Protection Programme.

• Effectively promote knowledge management through drafting/finalizing key project documents and reports, sharing good practice, lessons learned, organizing webinars, and knowledge/information exchanges, including the new established integrated approach between education and child protection.

Research:

• Contribute to research and analysis of the country situation with respect to children’s and women’s rights.

• Provide technical support to partners and UNICEF to develop quality research, study or survey protocols.

• Support the use of innovative tools for data collection on key thematic child protection areas.

Educational additional comments

  • Education, statistics, development economics, community development, social sciences, demography, international relations or similar field;
  • A first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience remark

  • Experience with project development and management, monitoring and evaluation, human rights-based approaches, capacity development approaches, are all assets;
  • Experience in child protection and gender programmes is desirable.

Language skills

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Filipino(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise details

  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.); familiarity with database management and development (Access); some skills in data analysis and open data kits such as Kobo;
  • Professional experience in planning, monitoring and evaluation of development/humanitarian programmes.
