Under the direct supervision of the Country Representative, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Provide support to the Country Representative in strategic planning for the My-anmar Country Office • Provide substantive inputs on the formulation of concept notes for UN Women's intervention areas. • Provide inputs to the development of annual workplan, programme/ project documents, participate in monitoring and reporting of UN Women’s work in the United Nations Transitional Cooperation Framework (UNTCF) and other UN system joint programming documents.

2. Provide technical support to the Country Representative and Country Office on inter-agency coordination on gender equality and empowerment of women. • Act as Secretary of the Gender Coordination Bodies chaired or co-chaired by UN Women, including the UNCT Gender Theme Group and the GEWE Development Partner Group under the Myanmar Development Assistance Coordination Unit (DACU). • Provide technical support to joint inter-agency UN planning processes and similar exercises in the UN Gender Theme Group; • Contribute to background materials and analysis for Country Representative and on the gender dynamics and opportunities to support inclusive engagement of women in the humanitarian and development assistance.

3. Provide technical support to the development of strategic partnerships and resource mobilization efforts. • Contribute to promotional events to engage bilateral and multilateral institutions/donors, private sector, and civil society to expand and/or sustain interest and resources for UN Women programmes and joint UN system programmes. • Provide support to development partners and national counterparts on the implementation of key UN frameworks and conventions on gender equality. • Provide network and capacity development to partner Civil Society Organizations and other stakeholders, as necessary.

4. Provide advocacy and communication support to the Myanmar Country Offices • Coordinate and implement advocacy campaigns on issues related to Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE), with a specific focus on International Women’s Day, the Generation Equality Campaign and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.

5. Facilitate knowledge-building and sharing. • Provide support to the development and dissemination of good practices and lessons learned; ensure incorporation into programme planning; • Contribute to capacity-building exercises, as necessary

Progressively responsible work experience in coordination, development /humanitarian project support, monitoring and evaluation and capacity building is an asset Knowledge of gender equality and women´s empowerment required Demonstrated experience in the inter-agency coordination across the development-humanitarian nexus and coordination with the international development partners, civil society and government Demonstrated experience in advocacy, communication and knowledge management Excellent writing, reporting, and analytical skills Previous experience with UN Women and other UN Agencies and engaging with diverse stakeholders, including CSOs, (I)NGOs, etc. an advantage.

Myanmar, officially the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, is a sovereign state in Southeast Asia bordered by Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand. One-third of Myanmar’s total perimeter of 1,930 km (1,200 miles) forms an uninterrupted coastline along the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. The country has an estimated population of 51 million people. Myanmar's capital city is Naypyidaw and its largest city is Yangon. The country is ethnically diverse. Most of them are Buddhists. Temperatures in Myanmar can vary from place to place. In general, the Myanmar climate is hot throughout the year, with temperatures averaging 27 degrees Celsius or 80 degrees Fahrenheit. In the months of March, April, and May the weather in Myanmar can be very hot and humid, especially around the coastal regions. This increase in temperature is caused by the onset of the rainy season. Despite the hot temperatures, there are areas that can be quite pleasant. The interior areas such as Inle Lake and Bagan can be quite a bit cooler than the coastal regions. The mountainous areas can also be cooler as they have a much higher altitude.

The security situation in Myanmar is currently volatile and unpredictable. Acts of violence by both parties of the conflict can occur anywhere, anytime and a further deterioration of the security situation is possible. Although the supplies have been limited and pricy, the situation is changing rapidly and a wider range of accommodation options are becoming available.
