Result of Service After these workshops, (1) participants will be able to explain the health benefits of this exercise (Qigong) and its use for general physical and mental health as well as stress management; (2) participants will be able to perform the movement sequence in a group as well as alone.

Duties and Responsibilities Qigong is used worldwide to revitalize and strengthen the body and mind. It strengthens the body and releases stress and increases the tranquility of mind. It has similarities to martial arts movements but is practiced via slow and mindful movements focused on gaining health benefits.

Given the fact that UN staff spend a fair amount of time in the office with limited movement and often face stress, ECA wants to provide opportunities for its staff and other personnel categories to learn health and stress management tools which can be easily learnt and practiced, thus leading to better stress management, stamina, strengthened resilience and physical and psychological well-being.

The delivery of two Qigong workshops, face to face and virtual - in order to reach out to all UNECA staff in all locations, is considered in order to provide staff the skills and tools to manage their health.

Under the overall guidance of the Chief ODU, the Individual Contractor is expected to perform the following duties:

  • Prepare learning material for Qigong 8 Brocades to assist participants to master the movement sequences. This should include a one-page history of this practice and guidance on the flow of movements.

  • Teach one full day of Qigong 8 Brocades (7-7.5 hours) to ECA Personnel in Addis Ababa; teaching must be hands-on with instructor demonstrating and explaining the movements.

  • Teach one virtual class (3-4 sessions for a total of 7-7.5 hours) to ECA Personnel based outside of Addis and those who are based in Addis but couldn’t attend the in-person session. This will be a live session with live instruction broadcasted via Teams with the technical assistance of ECA.

  • Prepare a feedback questionnaire as well as a post-workshop report.

    Qualifications/special skills - Any post-secondary education related to teaching, training or to health sciences;

  • Must have completed Qigong studies and practice with a qualified Qigong Master / Instructor;

  • Prior studies of the of the historic background of Qigong 8 Brocades such as Wu Qing Xi’s Five Animal Frolics (taught by Hua Tor, a medical sage of the Tung Han Dynasty), Yi Jin Jing (The Changing Tendon Sutra) and Xi Sui Jing, (Bone Marrow Cleansing Sutra) A minimum of three years' experience of being a Qigong Practitioner Prior teaching experience of Qigong classes to a group of learners

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
