ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The position will be for an initial period of 11 months, in a “when actually employed basis”. The photographer will be directly reporting to the Communications Officer under the overall guidance of the Head of Communications, Partnerships and Reports Unit. The photographer is expected to work an average of a few days a month. The request of working days per month may change depending on the schedule of activities or field mission.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Take photographs and videos of assigned WFP events, activities, field missions, case studies, to be used for awareness raising, advocacy, fundraising and media purposes – keeping in mind culture, gender and other diverse sensitivities as per WFP guidelines.
  • Write full captions, ensuring complete and accurate details of case studies.
  • Ensure that the people photographed are aware of where the photo will be used, and that the consent form is signed.
  • Ensure fast turn-around of materials, including a selection of at least 25 choice photos after every assignment, with low resolution copies to be provided whenever needed for immediate social media posting.
  • The photographer is encouraged to capture interesting or unique images within the scope of the field mission.
  • Able to travel to field missions as needed, particularly in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region
  • Other related tasks as assigned by the team

MANDATORY INCLUSIONS AND RESTRICTIONS

  • All footages will be owned by WFP and will be available to use by WFP and its partners.
  • All images, raw and processed, will be turned over to WFP.
  • WFP is happy to share copyright with the photographer. The photographer may use the materials for the purpose of self-promotion, portfolio, exhibition, or book, provided that in each case, it is clearly stated that such materials were produced on assignment with WFP, and that the intellectual property rights are vested in WFP.
  • All images may be published in the media, provided that WFP will be included in the credit in the following format: WFP/Photographer’s name.
  • All photos must be accompanied by a consent form from the subject.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Photography, Multimedia Arts, or any other related fields
  • Any Bachelor’s Degree with certificates or diploma in photography/ photojournalism

Experience:

  • At least five years of experience in professional photography
  • Experience working in publications is an advantage
  • Experience with video production is an advantage

Others:

  • Ownership of a professional camera and other relevant equipment
  • Proficiency in, and access to, photo editing software
  • Able to follow strict editorial guidelines
  • Able to travel for field work
  • Understanding of local context and developments in the project area (knowledge of local language is an advantage, but not required)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the communication requirements of a humanitarian organization and/or agencies involved with developmental and humanitarian work

Language: Good written and communication skills in English
