Job Description

BACKGROUND:

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a world leader in relief, rehabilitation and post-conflict development services for those uprooted or affected by violent conflict and oppression. The IRC is currently working in over 25 countries around the world, addressing both the immediate and lifesaving needs of conflict affected people in emergencies and the reconstruction needs of post-conflict societies.

The IRC has been working in Uganda since 1998 supporting IDPs, refugees and local communities. IRC Uganda has it country office in Kampala and regional offices in Kit gum Moroto, and Yumbe. The current program portfolio includes health, protection and rule of law, women’s protection and empowerment, and economic recovery and development programming.

Job Overview: Under supervision of the Health Manager the Pharmacy Technician will provide medication and other health care products to facilities. S/he will perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication for patients; and supports pharmacological services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications. She/he will supervise and provide oversight over the dispensers and continuously provide capacity building to the dispensers in health commodity management across the settlement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Ensuring that all pharmaceutical products received in the warehouse are dispatched and utilized at the health facilities before there expiration dates. By putting strategies in place to ensure appropriate utilization of donor funds by reducing wastages through expiries and damages. - Ensure compliance with IRC policies and standard operating procedures regarding ordering, receiving, storage and issuing of medicines from the pharma warehouse. - Ensure good storage and distribution practices at both the pharma warehouse and health facilities - Maintain an up-to-date electronic Logistics Management Information system (elms) such as RX solution. - Coordinating project activities that involves management and storage of health commodities including pharmaceutical supplies and medical equipment’s at the health facilities. - Ensuring that we comply with the WHO GDP standards - Strengthening the process of logistics management of supplies in alignment with the MoH guidelines and donor policies. - Ensuring availability of cost effective, Safe, efficacious, and rational use of pharmaceutical products using the different tools. E.g., SPARS, IRC Pharmacy Assessment tools etc. - Ensure tracking and accountability for all medical and pharmaceutical products and as well as related supplies released to the Health Facilities. - Support forecasting and quantification of Pharmaceutical supplies, using data obtained from the facilities to support key decision making. - Support good storage and distribution practice at both warehouse and Health facilities - Prepare monthly reports for both the Donors and internally as IRC. - Use and regular updating of the available Pharma inventory systems like Rx Solution. - Ensure capacity building of the Dispensers in the management and use of medicines and health commodities in the facilities through constantly training the staffs on the SOPs and any other identified capacity gaps - Ensure Pharmaceutical supplies received at the warehouse meet the IRC minimum quality standards both for donations and goods procured. He/ She must be available during the receipt of pharmaceutical products. Technical verification to be done by the Pharmacy Technician - Any other activities assigned by the supervisor.
