You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from a recognized institution, registered pharmacist
  • At least 2 years of experience in primary health care and general practice.
  • Experience in dispensing and handling of medicines
  • Experience in stock management of medicines and good practices of storage and distribution for medicines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluency in Arabic
  • English language skills

The Opportunity – Pharmacist (National Consultancy)

Post location: Gaza Field Office - PHCCs

Contract Duration and Level of Effort: 6 months with possibility of extension.

ROLE PURPOSE:

Primary Health Care Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the accurate preparation, packaging, and dispensing of medications to patients as prescribed by healthcare providers. This role involves supporting the pharmacy team and ensuring efficient pharmacy operations.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Health Officer

Staff reporting to this post: None.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Dispensing

  • Accurately dispense prescribed medications to the patients at PHCC.
  • Prepare drugs for patients with valid prescription forms
  • Review and verify prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and handling of medications.
  • Includes the following description on the tablet bag:
    • Name of the patient
    • Name of the drug
    • Dosage
    • Duration of treatment
    • Indicate when to take the drugs
    • Expiry date
  • Provides patient instructions how to take the treatment including the following additional information:
    • drugs indications
    • contraindications
    • dosage
    • drug interactions
    • side effects
  • Provide patient counselling on the proper use, storage, and side effects of medications.
  • Check patient understanding through requesting the patient to repeat the instructions
  • Answer patient questions about medications, usage, and potential side effects
  • Educate patients on medication adherence and lifestyle modifications and follow up is needed.
  • Gives the first dose of treatment on the spot if for all children under five or when prescribed as per protocol
  • Completes daily the pharmacy tally and consumption tool on a timely and accurate manner
  • Completes weekly the consumption sheets and calculate the average monthly consumption.

Stock Management

  • Completes weekly the consumption sheets and calculate the average monthly consumption
  • Establish the Stock Release Form for the medicines supplies according the weekly consumption to ensure availability of sufficient stock of medicines supplies at PHCC level
  • Report any stock out of drug to the health officer and prepare the request with list of items in needs and quantities according to the average monthly consumption and stock available
  • Ensures drugs and medical consumables are stored in an organized manner, with a proper usage of available space and are fully identified (lot number, expiration date, etc.), protected and easily accessible and according to the good practice of storage.
  • Ensures the maintenance of optimal storage conditions (temperature, cleanliness, pest control) and reports any variations to the pharmacist officer
  • Ensures all stock management tools (stock inventory, consumption records etc) are updated at all times.
  • Ensures stock-in, out and theoretical stock is in accordance with physical stock.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary working area.
  • Manage pharmaceutical waste.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from a recognized institution, registered pharmacist

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • At least 2 years of experience in primary health care and general practice.
  • Experience in dispensing and handling of medicines
  • Experience in stock management of medicines and good practices of storage and distribution for medicines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate flexibility, motivation, and maturity
  • Good information seeking skills and proactive approach
  • Concern for the wellbeing of children and interest in Child Rights
  • Fluency in Arabic
  • English language skills
  • MS office, excel

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) health facilities.
  • Knowledge of Save the Children systems and ways of working
