Organizational SettingS

Under the overall guidance of WHO Representative to Myanmar, the Pharmacist - childhood cancer initiatives will work under the direct supervision of the National Professional Officer (NCDs and Mental Health) and in close consultation with relevant technical staff in WHO Myanmar. In close collaboration with National Childhood Cancer Control programme director, the pharmacist will work closely with the childhood cancer control project manager, project officer, physicians and nurses at Hemato-oncology Unit of Yangon Children Hospital. The candidate will provide support to Ministry of Health & Sports for national childhood cancer control programme and support the implementation of relevant collaborative deliverables of the WHO-MoHS collaborative country programme, National Health Plans 2017-2021 & 2022-2026, WHO Myanmar Country Cooperative Strategy 2019-2025 and Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan 2018-2030. This includes monitoring and reporting support for relevant indicators and targets embodied in the aforementioned plans, especially those related to essential drugs as well as cancer. Overall, focus is on successful implementation of Childhood Cancer Initiatives in the context of Comprehensive Paediatric Cancer Control Plan for Myanmar 2017-2021, its successor document and WHO country cooperation strategy for Myanmar and national health plans of Ministry of Health & Sports.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. To support implementation of relevant parts of the WHO-MoHS collaborative programmes 2020-21 and 2022-23 and of relevant indicators and targets in the plans and documents mentioned in the section ‘organizational settings’ above
2. To support physician to cross check and confirm the types, dose, route and frequency of chemo drugs prescribed with recommended references
3. To support physician to check drugs compatibility/interaction of prescribed drugs prior medication
4. To serve as a focal person for chemo drugs preparation for medication
5. To prepare liquid/syrup form medicine as required
6. To participate in word round and support clarification regarding medication
7. To supervise/audit the correct medication of chemotherapy and report/produce report to project manager to improve service delivery
8. To support training on preparation and handling of chemo drugs to nurses who are providing chemotherapy
9. To support review and provide input on pharmacy resource guides
10. To support physician to cross check and confirm the protocol, chemo drugs and other supporting drugs to deliver for patient referred to continue treatment at satellite sites
11. To support clarification that may arise from satellite sites such as but not limited to pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, drugs interaction, etc
12. To support inventory management at least for chemo drugs and other essential medicines if needed by close collaboration with dedicated physician, nurse manager, project officer and project assistant at the facility

Work Relations and Partnerships

The pharmacist (Childhood Cancer Initiatives) will work closely with physician to support medication services delivery for nurses at Yangon Children Hospital/satellite site Hospitals. The candidate requires to work at full-time in public week days. The candidate is expected to contribute his/her services in case of emergency situations at Yangon Children Hospital.

Impact of functions

The function plays a key role to ensure correct and safe medication ultimately to increase patient accessible to quality medication and improve patient safety.

Qualification

Educational background

Essential: The University Degree on Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) or medical related background

Desirable: Master degree in Pharmacy or equivalent professional training

Professional experience and knowledge

Essential: Good track records of working experiences at public hospital/private/International/Local NGOs clinic. Good knowledge of safety precaution. Demonstrate responsiveness, and value of safe medication and patient safety. Must be able to work under pressure and available to travel in the country/abroad as required.

Desirable: Having work experiences in a clinical setting for medication preparation and reviewing of drugs interaction will be an asset

Language Skills

Required: Expert in Myanmar language (spoken and written)

Desired: Intermediate level of English language (spoken and written)
