ROLE DIMENSION

Save the Children operates across all zones in Somalia and currently has three main area offices and additional 11 field offices. Programmatically Somalia is a large Country Office with more than $100million annual budget turnover, more than 70 active awards at any time and over 650 staff.

ROLE PURPOSE

The post holder will provide support and technical advice to Damal Cafimaad project to develop, strengthen and review health supply chains. The postholder will assume a range of responsibilities related to the management, regulation, and quality control of pharmaceutical products. He/she will oversee the procurement, storage, and distribution of pharmaceutical products and supplies to ensure adequate stock levels are always maintained. The postholder will actively capacity build and empower project pharmacists and logisticians in the safe and effective management of medicines and healthcare products.

Reports to: DAMAL CAAFIMAAD PROJECT MANAGER.

with “dotted line” to Area medical Logistics Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy.
  • Certification in Medical Logistics is an added advantage.
  • Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Purchasing and Supplies Management, Stores Management or equivalent qualification in a related field of study.

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical supplies storage and distribution.
  • Experience in Medical procurement including forecasting, quantification needs and preparing demands.
  • Experience in managing a medical warehouse.
  • Experience of working with agencies and coordination groups in a humanitarian setting.
  • Experience and good knowledge about WHO Good Distribution Practices
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Experience in supply chain management in an emergency environment focusing on warehouse and distribution management.
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies.
  • Willingness to undertake field travel as required and work in difficult environments according to travel environments.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values, and principles.
