What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the position

The People Analytics Manager understands the people data & analytical needs of the ICRC and provides relevant solutions and insights to enable evidence-based decisions. The manager collaborates with stakeholders across the Institution to design, build and deliver People Analytics solutions using business intelligence and analytics.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Explores the needs of the organization through continuous listening / monitoring and dedicated briefing sessions.
  • Designs and builds end-to-end solutions or improvements together with the internal customer, the people analytics team, and other stakeholders such as T&I (ICT).
  • Identifies data trends that are otherwise not readily visible, communicates the findings.
  • Enables colleagues at HQ and in the field to draw action-driven insights from People Analytics solutions through presentations, seminars, or training / coaching sessions.
  • Maintains and improves existing analytics solutions such as our Workforce Supply Forecast model, using data science approaches and tools, in collaboration with stakeholders such as the Data Science and T&I teams.
  • Participates in the continuous maintenance and improvement of our suite of People Dashboards and other business intelligence solutions.
  • Participates in the continuous maintenance and improvement of People Analytics data sources in ICRC databases and provides advice and support for data quality initiatives when required.
  • Contributes to the reporting and analysis for the institutional strategy and performance monitoring.
  • Understands and ensures respect for ICRC guidelines and practices on data protection and privacy laws and standards.

Relationships

  • Internally: interacts with all departments/units concerned by data and analytics management at HQ and in the field. Works closely with the HR Data & BI Specialist as well as the Workforce Planning team.
  • Externally: may take part to HR conferences and interact with counterparts in other organizations for knowledge cross-fertilization.

Education required

  • University degree in a field related to Data, Statistics, Data Science, or equivalent.
  • Excellent command of English. Knowledge of French is an asset.

Experience required

  • At least 10 years overall professional experience, including at least 5 years related to the delivery of data and analytics solutions directly to end users, including at least 2 years in an international environment.
  • Experience in HR / People Analytics would be a strong asset
  • Strong experience with business intelligence tools, ideally Tableau.
  • Expertise in data science would be a strong asset
  • Experience with data science tools such as R and Python.
  • Experience wrangling data in relational databases, ideally SQL Server.
