Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located within the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in Erbil. The incumbent reports directly to the Chief Training Officer.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Training Officer is responsible for the following tasks: - Carries out training activities to include, inter alia, technical and substantive training, safety and security, induction training, leadership and management, and communications skills. Plans train-the-trainer and other courses/workshops which correspond to the needs of the mission, both present and future. Develops and upgrades relevant training materials as necessary. - Identifies need for new or modified training policies and practices, works with sections and mission staff to identify forthcoming training requirements and develops strategies to meet them. Organizes and conducts development initiatives such as mentoring and capacity building for staff. Provides inputs into the preparation and monitoring of the training budget. - Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of training, learning and development activities and develops appropriate reports. - Develops tools and participates in the assessment of training needs, collection and collation of required inputs and preparation of relevant reports. - Collaborates with UNAMI military component to ensure that an integrated approach to training and development is maintained and integrated training is developed and delivered to meet cross-cutting needs and build the capacity of national training staff within the Civilian Training Cell. - Coordinates the provision of administrative and logistical support for the delivery of training programs and team activities: this may include completion of requirements in recruiting consultants and training service providers. - Performs any other duties as required.

Planning & Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

Education High School Diploma or equivalent is required, preferably in training or learning and development, management, public or business administration or a related area such as education or social science.

Work Experience A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in workforce learning and development, adult learning, or a related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five years for candidates who possess a first level university degree.

Experience working in a multicultural and/or international work environment is required.

ICDL certification is desirable.

Prior experience in managing budget is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice - This position is temporarily available for an initial period of six months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and position. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.

  • While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
