This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the UN Peace & Development Advisor (PDA), the UN Volunteer will support the work of the Peace & Development team in the Resident Coordinator’s office including, but not limited to, the following tasks:

  1. Assist in research, information gathering and analysis, especially in areas related to supporting and promoting peacebuilding and conflict prevention
  • Daily media reviews and analysis of national and regional news;
  • Support the drafting of conflict analysis, risk assessment, and political analysis;
  • Carry out and coordinate research on issues / thematic areas related to the activities of the United Nations in Chad, in particular with regard to the support and promotion of peacebuilding, social cohesion and conflict prevention;
  1. Identify programmatic entry points aimed at strengthening national capacities for conflict prevention and peacebuilding, with emphasis on networks of women and youth.
  • Carry out mapping and analysis in collaboration with civil society for conflict prevention / peacebuilding at local and national level;
  • In collaboration with the peacebuilding team, identify areas of programmatic engagement for the UN in the area of conflict prevention and peacebuilding, with a particular focus on women and youth;

  • Networking with national and international NGOs, research institutes, government ministries and technical and financial partners;

  1. Provide technical support to the United Nations agencies in Chad to promote national capacities for conflict prevention and peacebuilding
  • Carry out a range of tasks to support United Nations coordination in the area of peacebuilding and the effective operation of the Chad peacebuilding team.
  • Support to the PBF Secretariat and to the National Peacebuilding Steering Commtee.
  • Assistance in the organisation of meetings and workshops and the preparation of meeting reports.

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Experience remark:

At least 2 years of demonstrated interest or professional work experience at the national and/or international level in conflict prevention, political analysis, research.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

  • Arabic(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Area of expertise:

International law, Journalism, mass media and broadcasting, Other legal experience

Area of expertise details:

  • First-level university degree in relevant areas, such as: International Relations, Law, History, Journalism

  • At least 2 years of demonstrated interest or professional work experience at the national and/or international level in conflict prevention, political analysis, research.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;

  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;

  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
