Overview

Assist in coordinating the Vulnerable Groups Unit and supporting staff in handling complaints.

You have:

  • Be a master's student in social sciences (law, sociology, international relations, political science, or related fields); or be in the last year of undergraduate studies in social sciences; or have completed undergraduate studies in social sciences within the last year.
  • Knowledge of human rights, preferably about the rights of indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants, migrants, persons with disabilities, and children and adolescents.
  • Basic knowledge of serious human rights violations committed in the country.
  • Experience in dealing with cases/complaints regarding human rights violations.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to research and synthesize information with excellent spelling and writing skills.
  • Good knowledge of Excel or other database programs.
  • Respect for UN principles and standards of conduct.
  • Must have some type of health insurance or health system coverage in Mexico City during the internship period.

Duties and Responsibilities

Asistencia a la coordinación de la Unidad de Grupos Vulnerables. Apoyar al staff en la atención y tramitación de quejas recibidas por la Oficina y apoyar en la reacción a emergencias. Apoyar en la sistematización de información sobre violaciones de derechos humanos. Asistir en la planeación de misiones o reuniones relacionadas con el monitoreo de la situación de derechos humanos. Apoyar en el seguimiento a medios de comunicación con los temas relacionados al área. Apoyar en la elaboración de comunicaciones y diversos tipos de documentos relativos a las áreas temáticas señaladas. Apoyar en otras tareas que sean necesarias para el cumplimiento de los objetivos de ONU-DH.

Qualifications/special skills

Ser estudiante de maestría en alguna ciencia social (derecho, sociología, relaciones internacionales, ciencia política u otras carreras afines); o Ser estudiante, del último año de licenciatura, en alguna ciencia social (derecho, sociología, relaciones internacionales, ciencia política u otras carreras afines); o Haber concluido, en el último año, estudios de licenciatura en alguna ciencia social (derecho, sociología, relaciones internacionales, ciencia política u otras carreras afines). Conocimiento de derechos humanos, preferiblemente sobre derechos de pueblos indígenas, personas afrodescendientes, personas en movilidad humana, personas con discapacidad, y niñas, niños y adolescentes. Conocimientos básicos sobre las graves violaciones a los derechos humanos cometidas en el país. Conocimiento o experiencia en la atención de casos/quejas de violaciones a derechos humanos. Capacidad para trabajar en equipo. Capacidad de investigación y síntesis, acompañada de excelente ortografía y redacción. Buen conocimiento de Excel u otros programas de bases de datos. Respeto por los principios y normas de conducta de las Naciones Unidas. Indispensable contar con algún tipo de seguro médico o cualquier otro sistema de salud, con cobertura en la ciudad de México y que esté vigente durante el periodo de la pasantía.
