The United Nations Volunteers programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well sup-ported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board.

UNV headquarters are based in Bonn, Germany, with 6 Regional Offices around the world. UNV has around 150 staff members at headquarters and over 10,000 UN Volunteers deployed in the field in 2021.

The UNV Field Unit (FU) in China, administered by UNDP, oversees UNV programmatic and partnerships initiatives and operations in China to fulfil UNV’s strategic priorities in mobilizing UN Volunteers and strengthening partnerships between UNV and stakeholders in China. As a member of the UNV Field Unit in China, the UN Volunteer Partnerships Specialist will support UNV’s work to maintain and expand partnerships in China, in close coordination with the External Relations and Communications Section (ERCS) team in Bonn, the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) and other UNV organizational units.

Under the overall leadership of the ERCS Partnerships Specialist and under the direct supervision of the Programme and Partnerships Specialist in China, the UN Volunteer Partnerships Specialist will undertake the following tasks: • Support strengthening and enhancement of UNV partnerships with Chinese stakeholders, including resource mobilization, deployment of FF and partner funded UN Volunteers, thematic and operational support (including to Assignment Preparation Trainings), follow up, etc.; • Support targeted outreach to attract the right talent for Chinese fully funded assignments and into the UNV global talent pool; • Support information and awareness raising about the UNV modalities and opportunities to prospective Chinese applicants; • Assist with translation and proof-reading of relevant partnership UNV materials into English and Chinese; • Facilitate surveys to gather information from the Chinese fully funded International UN Volunteers on their experience, without duplicating the UNV Annual Volunteer Survey, and its contribution to their professional development as well as reporting; • Lead the development and implementation of communications and advocacy strategies for partnerships building and expansion, including dedicated strategy to increase contributions to UNV’s Special Voluntary Fund; Assist in UNV’s learning session and retreat and corporate events; • Support missions to China of UNV management staff; • Assist with partnerships mapping, including private sector partners and subsequent Due Diligence preparation; • Provide logistics in organizing IVD celebration and country-level volunteerism knowledge sharing, advocacy and partnership events; • Assist engagement with partners for collaboration and promotion of South-South Cooperation and Triangular Cooperation; • Monitor and review budgets for fully funded UN Volunteer assignments and provide relevant advice to the supervisor; • Support event-related public awareness campaign and UNV social media platforms on fully funded partnerships; • Backstop UNV’s Programme Assistant, if necessary; • Perform any other related duties as requested by the direct supervisor.

Results/Expected Output: • Increased the number of Chinese nationals in the UNV global talent pool for international assignments; • Alliances with Chinese stakeholders strengthened ; • Increased contributions to the UNV Full Funding Programme; • Increased contributions to the Special Voluntary Fund; • Thematic and operational support provided; • South-South Cooperation and Triangular Cooperation engagement promoted; • Developed high-quality information materials in Chinese on how to partner with UNV, UN Volunteer modalities, etc. • Gathered information through evidence-based surveys and reporting of Chinese International UN Volunteers experiences; • Increased engagement in advocacy and awareness-raising events/campaigns; • Supported UNV missions to China as necessary; • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed. • The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counter-parts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment

• Excellent writing and communications skills in English and Chinese; • Previous experience with the UN system and government agencies is an asset; • Relevant experience in partnerships building; • Experience in public policy and/or youth development is an asset; • Advanced computer skills;

The duty station is located in Beijing city, where modest public infrastructure and health services are available. It is the foremost political and cultural metropolis in China. The city has excellent health services available.

In general, rent for apartments in central locations is high relative to other regions in China, but quality is good. Beijing is well served by many shopping malls, large supermarket chains and international brands. Buses and subways are the most common form of mass transportation. Metered taxis are widely available and domestic and regional travel by train and airplane is popular.

The National UN Volunteer receives a standard volunteer living allowance (VLA), which is intended to cover their accommodation and basic living expenses. In China the VLA is 9,490 RMB per month. The National UN Volunteer is entitled to an excellent health, life and disability insurance package. A modest Settling-in Grant and end of assignment allowances will also be provided along with travel to and from the duty station within China. International travel to duty station is not covered by UNV. The National UN Volunteer is entitled to 2.5 days personal leave per month and UN official holidays.
