Strategic office context:

Alongside its strategic planning and knowledge management functions, Supply Division’s (SD) Strategy, Partnerships & Knowledge Management Centre (SPKC) leads the area of private sector partnerships on behalf of the Division - leveraging the assets of business to advance access to supplies (focusing on enhancing supply chains). It also acts as the Division’s focal point for Contributions-in-Kind, from both the public and private sectors.

How can you make a difference?

Under the overall guidance and leadership of the SPKC Chief - and in close liaison with key stakeholders within SD, and in other UNICEF offices and National Committees - the Partnerships Manager (Supply) is primarily responsible for (1) the direction, development and coordination of SD’s partnership engagement with the private sector in support of UNICEF’s and partners’ supply chains, and (2) coordination of SD’s engagement in all opportunities of Contributions in Kind (CIK) of programme supplies and transport services - from private and public donors - with all other UNICEF offices and National Committees (the incumbent being the official SD focal point for CIKs).

The ultimate purpose is to enable private sector support to UNICEF around supply chains which adds real strategic value, meets priority strategic needs, and with any risks duly assessed and mitigated.

1. Guide SD’s strategic approach to partnerships with the private sector (focusing on supply chains), to include identifying the Division’s (and the broader Supply Function’s) priority “needs” from partnerships.

2. Maintain and build a relevant external network and relationships (with a focus on the supply chain industry) to support the strategic development of SD’s private sector partnerships.

3. Lead the development of new partnerships, and the management of existing partnerships, identifying and seizing opportunities which are strategic for SD and managing risks; coordinate relationship management with all partners, current and prospective (to ensure a coherent approach)

4. Coordinate SD’s engagement in all opportunities of Contributions in Kind (CIK) of programme supplies and transport services (as SD CIK focal point) originating from different offices in UNICEF, in line with UNICEF’s global CIK policy and SD’s internal procedures. This includes but is not limited to the review of specific opportunities, coordination of the approval process, making recommendation for approval; establishing the parameters for CIKs which are to be approved, development of related templates and processes, and providing technical assistance.

5. Coordinate and provide guidance to SD’s review of private sector partnership proposals from across the UNICEF family within industries which are a priority for the Division: pharmaceutical (including vaccines), healthcare, cold chain, airline, logistics, water, sanitation, education (supplies), hygiene and nutrition.

6. Provide input into relevant UNICEF policies, procedures and guidance (around private sector partnerships and CIKs); coordinate priority capacity-building and the development of relevant guidance material.

7. Provide advisory support to SD management in the area of private sector partnerships (such as strategic advice, briefing notes, support to events and meetings)

8. Manage staff under supervision, supporting and empowering them to maximize their results; establish annual work plan for the partnerships function; establish clear individual performance objectives, goals and timelines for team members; monitor work progress and ensure results are achieved according to schedule and performance standards.

Impact of Results:

The work of the Partnerships Manager (Supply) contributes to a strengthening of supply chains for children, and the availability of supplies through CIKs. The incumbent’s management of risks - and her / his advice to management - directly impacts on the reputation of SD and of UNICEF.
