UNICEF is setting up a Private Sector Hub for the Europe & Central Asia (ECA) region that will explore new, more cost-effective models of income generation within the region to help meet programme needs and increase financial sustainability across the region. Within the Hub, the High Impact Partnerships function will organically develop corporate, foundation, membership-based and major gift fundraising & Partnerships, focusing on partnerships that have the potential of impact at scale, be financial (US$ 500,000 +) or non-financial.

The Partnerships Manager will work under the ECA Senior adviser to develop and lead a customized approach to high impact individual, membership-based organization, corporate and foundation partnerships, working closely with the Programmes, Advocacy and Communication sections, to achieve long-term sustainable impact for UNICEF ECA programmes. The Partnerships Manager will also work closely with the Child-Rights &Business (CRB) and Private Sector Engagement (PSE) teams in Programme Group and Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships teams to fully leverage existing platforms, capacity building and support.

How can you make a difference?

Under the general guidance of the Senior Adviser Private Sector Fundraising & Partnerships, and in close liaison with Regional Office senior management and programme staff, the post is responsible for ensuring that UNICEF’s partnerships with the private sector in the ECA region maximizes results for children by leveraging financial and non financial resources.

1. Lead Direct engagement (Bilateral negotiations) with High-impact prospects (Large companies primarily, either at the scale of the country or ideally in a multi-country setting) and develop engagement strategies and plans (corporates, foundations, philanthropists) for the region and select Country Offices.

  • Develop a priority list of top new prospects across corporate, foundations and major donors channels based on capacity and likelihood to give/engage/impact and affinity to the cause.
  • Develop engagement plans to initiate partnerships with top prospects.
  • Develop a strategy to engage High Impact diaspora groups, individuals, and companies with interests in the region.
  • Pilot group acquisition and engagement opportunities based on the interests of an identified priority prospect list. For example, virtual events to highlight content of interest from programmes; Ramadan/Navruz-linked cultivation and solicitation opportunities; and/or emergency fundraising activators.
  • Support market assessment as well as other efforts to tap into high impact potential across the region.

2. Collaboration & Coordination, with Country Offices, as well as Natcoms, and Programme colleagues when engaging after these high-impact opportunities.

  • Build capacity with local teams and ensure efficient execution of high impact strategies: build capacity on UNISON, Proposal building, processes,…for PSFR COs and non-PSFR COs staff.
  • Support Country Office fundraising teams in establishing the annual work plan, setting priorities/targets and performance measurements.
  • Secure the funds and personnel required to close, manage and maintain new high impact partnerships, including recruit, train and support partnership focal points.
  • Support Country Offices with high Impact fundraising and non-financial engagement. Where Country Offices have local partnership staff, provide technical support, capacity-building and strategic oversight for their high impact fundraising and non-financial engagement, including acting as a knowledge management hub to collect local learning and to connect to global engagements and offerings (e.g., SPIEF, United Nations General Assembly).

3. Manage the High Impact Partnerships Strategy of the Hub.

  • Establish clear goals, individually as well as for related functions, monitor work progress on high value and ensure results are achieved according to schedule and performance standards.
  • Evaluate the performance of the High Impact channels, leverage lessons learned, and contribute to financial sustainability of the Hub.

4. Regional and country office technical support to the RO and COs in ECAR to ensure proactive identification, pursuing and impact maximization of business engagement/partnerships opportunities as integral aspect of country programming

  • In close coordination with the Private Sector Engagement colleagues in Programme Group and with PFP B4R colleagues, coordinate the B4R strategy in ECAR by supporting a) business engagement and partnerships strategy development, b) evidence-based and impact-driven market outreach and engagement to accelerate results, and c) institutionalization of Business engagement as programming strategy and accountability across programme and planning networks. More specifically, the role will:
  • Support RO and COs in developing and effectively implement business engagement strategies against emerging programming, advocacy and resource mobilization challenges. Business engagement to be considered and pursued based on programme priorities, by looking at the full spectrum of objectives (from resource mobilization, to leveraging business innovation and non-financial assets, from influencing business policies, practices products and services, to advocacy with and through business) and in a way that will inform upcoming opportunities for high value partnerships.
  • Provide Technical support to COs in pursuing evidence-based and impact-driven outreach and actual engagement with business, including lead on RO CRB and non-financial strategies, focused engagements and as components of high value partnerships.
  • Collaborating with key RO and COs planning and programme stakeholders, support strategic institutionalization of business engagement into programming, and related skills, by leveraging key entry points (ie enable COs to adapt and innovate to ensure strategic mobilization of business at AWP level, facilitate evidence generation on the impact of business on children rights (both adverse and as potential investor/innovator/influencer) to inform new CPD development; facilitate integration of business engagement in key regional fora).
  • Coordinate work around regional documentation and reporting of business engagement value-add in programming ( as per Strategic Plan metrics and reporting expectations related to B4R).

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s) in Business Management, Social Sciences, Marketing or related field is required.** **A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) in combination with two extra years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant and progressively responsible professional work experience in high value private sector fundraising and partnerships is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in securing new multi-country private sector partnerships is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in both corporate and philanthropic partnerships is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting the teams on the ground and developing capacity-building plans for the teams/Country Offices to deliver results is a strong asset.
  • Work experience with middle-income countries and in developing countries is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF Private Sector Fundraising is an asset.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in English, written and verbal, is required. Working knowledge of another official UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) and/or regional language (Turkish) as needed to perform the role is an asset.
