Contract

Through the Resource Mobilization and Partnerships unit, UNICEF Ghana works to strengthen the mobilization of resources to achieve its programme priorities and improve the lives of the most disadvantaged children. The Partnerships team is responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders, working collaboratively to generate income from traditional and non-traditional partners such as development partners, individual donors, corporates, and foundations. The team also works closely with National Committees abroad and UNICEF WCA Regional Office to drive income growth for the Ghana Country Office (GCO). In this position, the Partnerships Junior Officer will play a key role in supporting the partnerships team by assisting in monitoring fundraising trends and GCo resource mobilization performance as well as contributing to strengthening knowledge management, and partnerships coordinatation. This will require commitment and motivation to support research and sound policy and business analysis, assist in sharing information and in organizing, facilitating and managing meetings and events

Under the direct supervision of Partnerships Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Support the analysis of the current fundraising environment and trends to contribute to the identification of new resource mobilization streams and partnerships opportunities
• Support the development and maintenance of a partnerships map and contact list of key individuals, groups, organizations, and fora whose support can assist in achieving UNICEF GCO objectives. • Support the collection, coordination and distribution of information and updates across relevant internal and external stakeholder channels • Support recording and managing all donor interactions and engagements on UNISON, including record of proposals submitted and active leads • Support the monitoring of GCO funding gap and of progress made against RM targets and contribute to compile reports of results • Support the preparation of pitches and fundraising compelling materials
• Contribute to donor retention processes including by contributing to the development and updating of partners’ engagement plan by also suggesting ways to improve the partner journey and enhancing UNICEF’s influence with existing and prospective partners. • Assist in delivering successful partnership site visits

Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

The incumbent will be based in Accra, Ghana which is relatively safe location and currently classified as hardship category B. Transport, medical, education and other services are at a higher level compared to other countries in the region. At the sea level, the climate of the country is tropical – hot and humid with average yearly temperatures of about 27°C (80°F) and little daily variation. At the interior’s higher attitudes, the average yearly temperature is 20°C (68°F), and nights are generally cool. Annual rainfall varies from 500 centimeters (200 in.) on the southwestern slopes to 100 centimeters (40 in.) in the northern lowlands. The rainy season runs from October to May. The total population of Ghana is currently estimated at 30,000,000. Ghana is a Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) country.

Accommodation can be rented from 1000$ per month and meals at restaurants cost between 10$ and 60$. Food, household commodities and clothing can be found in shops and markets at reasonable prices. An entry visa is required for majority of travelers and must be obtained prior to arrival from an Embassy. The Cedi is the local currency and according to the UN exchange rate system; 1 USD is equivalent to 12.4 GHS (February 2023). Commercial banks are operating in the country and credit cards are accepted in hotels, restaurants and supermarkets.

English is the official language in Ghana, however, several local languages are spoken and for many people, their local language is their first language.
