Background Information - PLG

The Partnerships and Liaison Group (PLG) supports UNOPS efforts to strengthen collaboration with partners at country, region and global levels, across the full range of UNOPS activities. Through strategic and operational partnerships, PLG seeks to ensure high partner satisfaction by integrating best practices and innovative solutions in all our projects, based on over 25 years of experience. Headquartered in Copenhagen, PLG has Liaison Offices in Brussels, Geneva, Washington DC, New York, Nairobi, Tokyo and Bangkok. PLG works with partners including the World Bank, the European Union, the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the UN Mine Action Service and Department of Peacekeeping operations, UNEP, the Global Fund, WHO, UNHCR, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and others.

The Geneva Liaison Office aims to establish and develop strategic partnerships with key global Health Stakeholders. In its daily work GLO engages and builds stronger relationships to existing health and humanitarian partners in Geneva including The Global Fund, UNHCR, WHO, the Government of Switzerland and Gavi. GLO also supports country offices, to manage their health portfolios, provides key health data and analyses to guide project development, develops and maintains organisation-wide tools and materials, and works to share knowledge and provide coordination support to enable effective health partnerships and outreach efforts.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Head of Geneva Liaison, the Partnerships Intern will be responsible for:

1. Conducting health partner research, including internal and external data analysis on current and potential areas for collaboration;

2. Monitoring of health partner trends and developments to identify possible new opportunities, and developing relevant engagement strategies;

3. Developing analysis reports, background notes, presentations and talking points on key issues and events related to the above;

4. Assisting in the team’s relationship building activities and related mission/meeting preparations and follow-up, with a focus on the Geneva based partners;

5. Updating the internal working tools, including internal information/knowledge management tools and the Intranet.

Other duties related to GLO objectives may be required.

In performing her/his responsibilities, the Partnerships Intern will work closely with the Head of Geneva Liaison, as well as other UNOPS personnel at country, regional and Headquarters level.

The applicant will be responsible for providing support to Head of Geneva Liaison on the following activities:

• Researching and developing partner profiles, as well as associated engagement strategies including follow up information and provision of tailored feedback;

• Collecting and analysing information, policy briefs, reports, academic journals and news articles related to current health issues and relevance to UNOPS services;

• Developing/updating business/market analysis, outreach plans and thematic briefs (e.g. by partner, sector and country);

•Research, draft, update and maintain partner profiles and briefs according to priorities, areas of focus, and country strategies;

•Research and draft partner engagement and outreach strategies in support of key partner management;

•Monitoring of business development/donor websites to aid in the identification of potential support opportunities;

•Updating of UNOPS Profiles in relevant internal knowledge management tools;

•Liaising with relevant teams, regional and field offices, as well as HQ teams, when applicable, and build relationships with personnel across the organization to improve information dissemination and facilitate data collection and knowledge management;

•Assisting with internal capacity building efforts in the area of health and humanitarian partnerships;

• Developing, maintaining and updating content of Geneva Liaison Office intranet information in coordination with the communications focal point, and;

•Performing other related duties as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

Currently enrolled in, or recently completed (less than 3 years), a University Master’s Degree in health / development / international relations or other relevant area.

The preferred candidate would have a combination of degrees including one in development studies, public policy, health, administration, international relations, economics, business, communications, engineering, or other related areas.

Experience

The ideal candidate would have a combination of private and public sector and NGO experience including experience in international cooperation, in the following areas:

• Development cooperation

• Diplomacy

• Programme and project acquisition/development

• Strategic planning and development

• Client/donor research and SWOT analysis

• Data analysis

The candidate should also have knowledge of, and experience with Google Teams, Docs, Sheets, Slides etc Knowledge of Sharepoint and Microsoft is an asset.

Languages

Fluency in English is required. Fluency in other UN languages, in particular French, is considered to be an asset.

Contract type, level and duration

The Intern is expected to be based in the duty station. Contract type: Internship

Contract level: Internship

Contract duration: 6 months, with possibility of extension maximum up to 12 consecutive months; subject to satisfactory performance and available budget

Stipend: USD 1875 per month.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
