Overview

The SDG Lab is a multi-stakeholder initiative that accelerates the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. It enables the diverse ecosystem of SDG actors in Geneva and beyond to contribute towards SDG targets at country level through innovative collaboration, partnerships, methods and models that leverage expertise and knowledge into policy, practice and action.

The SDG Lab creates the opportunity and space for multi-stakeholder groups to innovate and experiment with new approaches, initiatives and actions that accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The Lab does not just catalyze action, it actively supports collaborative efforts in order to increase success rates.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Junior Project Officer, the intern will provide support by:

  • Assist in maintaining the Geneva 2030 Salesforce system by: uploading contacts, organizations, activities and campaigns to the system; support in developing systems, guides and reminders for encouraging the team to actively use Salesforce.

  • Support the Geneva 2030 Ecosystem design thinking process and assist in the research methodology.

  • Assist in reporting on the Geneva 2030 Ecosystem including building and administering satisfaction surveys, collecting data on activities

  • Support meeting coverage by attending key meetings (e.g. bilaterals and events) related to the SDG Lab including note-taking and recording action items for follow up.

  • Assist with data collection for the SDG Lab’s measurement and evaluation framework, and in contributing to the implementation of technical solutions to enable its execution.

  • Conduct research and deliver presentations on the SDGs, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the work of the SDG Lab.

  • Support the development of SDG Lab communications activities (e.g. website, social media, presentations, visual materials, newsletters, etc).

  • Assist in supporting SDG Lab outreach activities such as preparing event documentation and materials, taking photographs and helping with event set up and tear down.

  • Other duties as required and determined by the SDG Lab team.

    Training components and learning elements

The internship will provide the opportunity for on-the-job training in the following areas: partnerships, communications, multilateral collaboration and innovation, facilitation of actors and processes, as well as advocacy and outreach.

As part of the learning, the intern will be requested to read project-related documents and will also have the opportunity to benefit from other learning opportunities working alongside experts in the organization.

Impact of Results

The intern will assist the SDG Lab by helping expand its reach and impact and will support on data collection and data improvement for the SDG Lab’s Measurement, Evaluation and Learning Framework.

The performance of the intern will be measured based on agreed objectives between the intern and supervisor.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

The intern should be enrolled in a university programme such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. (or the equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the application date of the internship.

Experience

Professional working experience is not required for this internship, but previous working experience (including volunteering or extracurricular involvement) in partnerships, collaborating with different actors and implementers for sustainable development, writing and communications, using social media tools, and MS Office would be a strong asset.

Previous involvement with and exposure to public relations, press relations, UN system and international affairs would be an asset.

Language

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French is desirable.

Swiss legislation requires interns to possess valid medical and accident insurance from a Swiss insurance company for the entire duration of their internship. Information and quotations can be found here www.comparis.ch

Interns should confirm that they are fit specifically for the duty station conditions, as certified by a medical practitioner. The Interns are responsible for receiving clearance from a medical doctor to travel and perform this internship.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Stipends may be subject to applicable Swiss Taxation. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of (300 or 500 or 800 USD) depending on where the successful intern travels from. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
