BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The WFP Regional Bureau for Eastern and Central Africa (RBN) is based in Nairobi and provides strategic direction, technical guidance, resource mobilization and management support to WFP operations and activities in nine countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda.

Enhancing partnerships and exploring new forms of engagement with key stakeholders are critical to achieve WFPs mandate. RBN assists the region in raising funds where most needed and optimizing the management of these resources. The unit undertakes and provides partnership support to Country Offices on the Integrated Road Map, regional donor relations, UN and NGO relations, Climate financing, partnership knowledge management, private sector partnerships and innovations.

One of the key pillars for the 2023-unit workplan is carrying out an aggressive Private Sector resource mobilization outreach strategy and brokering partnerships with these entities in order to raise funds and resources. The candidate will provide support to the private sector and innovation teams with a focus on mapping, research and developing partnership opportunities for our operations in the Eastern Africa Region.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Support RBN’s efforts to increase WFP’s positioning with the private sector through research analysis, communication, advocacy, and visibility. 2. Support the work of RBN on new private sector and innovation initiatives as well on engagement with other existing and potential partners. 3. Develop, design and execute individual giving campaigns in the region. 4. Overall research, data & market analysis on RBN partnership and innovation opportunities. 5. Contribute to identifying innovation and private sector partnership opportunities. 6. Support the WFP innovation hub’s programmes and activities which include innovation project and programme coordination, capturing and sharing lessons learnt and drafting communications materials. 7. Support the regional aflatoxin project and develop reports for our donors. 8. Support in preparation of briefing documents and presentations for internal senior management meetings and external meetings with donors and other stakeholders. 9. Work in collaboration with Partnerships focal point to ensure the flow of information with country offices, other WFP units and external audiences. 10. Support in providing regular information to inform new and potential donors on the strategy, design, relevance, and impact of programmes, to advocate for WFP work. 11. Assist with the strategic positioning of WFP in the region by monitoring donor communications, press releases and sharing information on funding opportunities and other important issues with team members and country office colleagues. 12. Broker knowledge within the unit and ensure that knowledge is shared through the WFP corporate tools. 13. Perform any other relevant duty/assignment as may be deemed necessary by his/her supervisor or Head of Unit.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area. University degree in Political Science, International Development, Environmental Science, Development Economics, Business Administration, or any other relevant field is an added advantage.

Experience: 2 years of related professional experience

Knowledge & Skills: Relationship management, project management, communication, prospecting, and pipeline management

Languages: Fluency (level C) in English language
