BACKGROUND

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a partner in the National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants & Migrants (NRC-RIM), led by the University of Minnesota and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. NRC-RIM’s mission is to decrease health disparities and improve health outcomes in Refugee, Immigrant, and Migrant (RIM) communities in the U.S. As an NRC-RIM partner, IRC develops and leads innovative health promotion activities in partnership with RIM communities in key locations in the U.S. This includes engaging directly with communities through in-person and digital initiatives around COVID-19, vaccination, and other health promotion topics; creating and sharing promising practices; and strengthening partnership nationally and locally to mitigate barriers for RIM communities.

SCOPE OF WORK

Under the direction of the RAI Technical Advisor – Health Promotion, the Partnership Manager will further IRC efforts in the Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration (RAI) unit to build and harness partnerships with diaspora networks nationally in the US and to foster the work of IRC U.S. offices in order to better assist clients and communities with their health needs. There is an urgent need to support Afghan clients and communities in addressing health concerns and promoting physical and wellbeing as individuals, children and families adjust and establish lives in the U.S. This role has two primary aims: (1) establish and resource partnerships with local, regional and national Afghan organizations in the U.S. who can help support the development and dissemination of meaningful and linguistically accessible health communications, and (2) support IRC program offices in the U.S. who are engaging in aligned health promotion activities within their community. Specific health promotion topics of interest include maternal and child health, infectious disease (including COVID-19), healthcare navigation, mental health, nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, and women’s health. The Partnership Manager will ensure positive relationships with internal and external partnerships, help establish clear deliverables, and support and ensure that deliverables are met. They will also discern promising and innovative practices that should be elevated so that other organizations and agencies may learn and replicate from NRC-RIM’s investment. In addition to working with Afghan organizations and IRC program offices in the U.S., this position will coordinate and liaise on project activities will multiple other programming sectors at IRC so that activities are synchronized and aligned, and impact is maximized.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

- Coordinate NRC-RIM funded IRC program offices to provide support and ensure community and client focused projects are impactful and meet established deliverables - Create and implement local, regional and national partnership health promotion activities with Afghan organizations serving Afghans within the U.S. This includes: - Conduct partner outreach activities and support colleagues on outreach per targeted health promotion engagement strategies in the U.S. - Build new partnerships and strengthen and sustain partnerships with existing networks for health promotion initiatives - Coordinate to facilitate listening sessions with members of the diaspora community and diaspora networks to gather information about communities’ health needs - Provide technical assistance to offices involved in the NRC-RIM project on the creation and implementation of health promotion plans and strategies, with a particular focus on the Afghan diaspora in the U.S.; adequately capture and elevate promising practices to HQ team - Coordinating with the health communications lead with the translation and cultural validation process for associated health promotion materials - Ensure health promotion engagement strategies address the diverse needs of various ethnic, religious, and other demographic communities within diaspora communities - Create and maintain regular communication/feedback cycle with partners and stakeholders - Relay diaspora community health priorities and interests to RAI leadership and partners - Foster connections with, and learnings and guidance from, diaspora groups across IRC teams - Represent IRC at stakeholder meetings as assigned - Deliver briefings and presentations to national and local diaspora networks, and support staff and leadership for briefings and presentations

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Position reports to: RAI Technical Advisor – Health Promotion

Collaboration with: The Partnership Manager, NRC-RIM maintains close working relationships with other members of the IRC NRC-RIM team including the Program Officer, NRC-RIM, M&E support person on RAL’s team; focal point program staff at IRC offices; and the Settle In and ImportaMi teams.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

- Minimum three years’ work experience. Experience in community engagement, public/community health, partnership development, and/or external affairs ideal.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

- Fluent in Dari and/or Pashto - Knowledge of the various ethnic groups that comprise the Afghan diaspora in the United States - Knowledge of and connections with some of the national Afghan diaspora networks - Knowledge of some of the primary health needs, barriers, and opportunities of the Afghan community in the U.S. - Ability to work across diverse communities and interests - Experience building and maintaining relationships and cultivating partnerships - Ability to develop practical strategies and willingness to provide hands-on support - High level Microsoft Office skills. Basic visual design skills (PowerPoint, infographics, Publisher, etc.) a plus. - Excellent oral and written communication skills - Experience working with refugees, immigrants, or migrants - Highly organized self-starter with demonstrated problem-solving, project management and follow-through ability, and proven success in managing multiple and diverse priorities - Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a fast-paced environment, within and across departments/functions, managing multiple priorities and develop positive relationships with locally and remote based staff - Strong attention to detail - Creatively thinking through new ideas and approaches

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standard office work environment. Up to 20% travel required.
