STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: More than 3 years of experience in communications or related fields in Japan.

EDUCATION: Advanced university degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Econimics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications or other relevant field, or First university degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.

LANGUAGES: Native level skills in the writing, speaking and comprehension in Japanese language. Excellent knowledge of English is required.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

WFP Japan's mission is to raise awareness of WFP's work among the public and partners in Japan - one of the top-ranking and consistent donor countries. The WFP Japan Relations Office (TOK) acts as a partnership hub, fostering strategic partnerships with Japanese institutions, liaising with the Government as well as the private sector, media houses and the academia. WFP needs to take the whole of society approach to mobilize the support from the Japanese society. TOK has Government Partnership, Private Sector Partnership and Communication pillars. TOK Director needs to coordinate and complementarity work between these three pillars to consolidate and spearhead WFP’s strategic engagement with the Japanese society, and deems it necessary to have effective systems to be developed for these important tasks.

JOB PURPOSE

Support TOK Director to be equipped with established systems to gather, analyze and share (to a very limited internal audience) strategic information on Japan’s political, economic, business and socio-economic situations related to WFP’s engagement with Japan, to support the initial engagement of TOK Director with the parliamentarians, influencers and media houses and to support the preparation and logistics of the high level field /HQ missions to Japan.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

The consultant will work on the following tasks under the direct supervision of TOK Director and in close cooperation with all TOK teams.

  1. Assist TOK Director in engaging with parliamentarians, influencers and media houses and propose a sustainable system to be put in place for it;
  2. Serve as a focal point for Operational Information Management to collect information on critical WFP operations and needs (Sitrep, Updates, Press releases, etc.) in touch with relevant WFP offices and share with TOK staff in a user-friendly form (if required summarized or not summarized) information on critical WFP operations which will be useful for his meetings and advocacy talks / messaging and propose a sustainable system to be put in place for it;
  3. Gather critical information regarding the Japanese ODA policy of relevance to WFP, as well as the political, economic, business and socio-economic situations in Japan and propose a sustainable system to be put in place for it;
  4. Asist TOK Director to initiate, maintain and develop partnership with universities and research institutes and propose a sustainable system to be put in place for it;
  5. Fill any gap in preparing press release and other communication material, correspondence and other; documentations to enhance WFP’s visibility and support from the general public towards WFP activities in close collaboration with the Communication team;
  6. Collect, compile and produce donor visibility materials in close collaboration with the Communication team;
  7. Support the preparation of high-level incoming missions, visibility initiatives, including public events and seminars;
  8. Support the preparation of briefing papers and talking points for TOK Director and high level missions;
  9. Perform other related duties as required.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration of contract is for a period not exceeding 3 months. The employment contract for this position will not be extended under any circumstances.

WFP offers a competitive compensation package which will be determined by the contract type and selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
