Description of task

Over the last few years, the Kenya Resident Coordinator’s Office has significantly in-creased its focus on partnerships with the Government, private sector and civil socie-ty on behalf of the UN country team in Kenya. This increased ambition is based on the understanding of the crucial role partnerships play for the realisation of the SDGs and Agenda 2030. Under the heading “Partnerships with a special focus on youth” the UN volunteer (Specialist) will work 60 per cent of the time with a specific focus on youth and Generation Unlimited and 40 per cent on Partnerships with a particular fo-cus on the SDG Partnership Platform.

Under the supervision of the Officer for Resource Mobilization and Partner-ships UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

· Support the program and operational activities of partnerships handled by the RCO with a particular focus on the SDG Partnership Platform and Youth/Generation Unlimited, including but not limited to participating UN agencies, private sector, philanthropy, civil society, government representa-tion, research institutions, investment fora, bi- and multilateral donors.

· Support knowledge generation and dissemination on partnerships including research initiatives/compilation of lessons learnt and the formulation of com-munications strategies/tools;

· Support key operational and administrative processes necessary for the effi-cient functioning of the RCO partnerships including Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) modalities on funding/funds flow.

· Provide support to substantive events and conversations with partners.

· Maintain information & documentation, and monitor background information on existing and potential partners

· Support preparations of reports in accordance with government and financing partners requirements.

· Coordinate and participate in resource mobilization activities aimed at increas-ing investments and core cost contributions for the RCO partnerships with a focus on Youth/Generation Unlimited and SDGPP for the benefit of UN Kenya and all stakeholders;

· Assist in the development and implementation of work planning, strategy for-mulation and budgetary framework of the SDGPP and Youth/Generation Un-limited as applicable.

· Provide support in the engagement with UN agencies on youth related pro-gramming, including for the technical working group on youth.

· Support the GenU Partnerships Coordinator including but not limited to pre-paring for National Steering Committee meetings and activities, and reporting on various activities from the UN.

· Provide key support on behalf of SDGPP to the functioning of the Agriculture Sector Network (ASNET) as a key national partner of SDGPP Window 2 on Food and Nutrition Security, and its sub-committee on Youth in Agriculture; the Financing, Trade and Investment Network (FINTRINET) as an umbrella multi-stakeholder body for economic growth, and the National Advisory Board Task Force for Impact Investment.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Required experience:

Experience remark:

  • · Experience working with the UN is preferred

    · Experience in formulating Youth-Focused policy and programmes is required

    · Experience in event organization is required

    · Experience in applying creative and social media is an advantage

    · Experience in engaging with Government dignitaries and protocol an advantage

This assignment is funded by the Government of the Russian Federation, therefore only Russian nationals are eligible to apply.

This is a UN Volunteer assignment and eligible candidates must be 25 years of age or older.

Selection process

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment, via competency-based interviews held via skype or telephone.
