Duties and Responsibilities

Background: The position is with the Regional Development Coordination Office in the Arab States (ROAS). The ROAS supports the Resident Coordinator’s in the Arab States to support members states to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. UN Resident Coordinator’s Office have five core functions: 1. COORDINATION & PLANNING SUPPORT 2. ECONOMIC AFFAIRS & PROGRAMME FACILITATION 3. PARTNERSHIPS & DEVELOPMENT FINANCE 4. DATA, RESULTS MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING 5. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT, COMMUNICATION & ADVOCACY. Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties: - Assist in the formulation of strategies, programmes, and policies, through preparation of slide decks, background papers. - Help monitor, identify, and analyse geographic and thematic regional trends across all 10 countries covered by DCO Arab States. - Support the preparation of regional level meetings (including PSG and other inter-agency meetings), events and retreats. - Support the preparation and follow up to online communities of practices (Partnership Officers, Economists, Data management). - Support the knowledge management efforts of the office, including creating and updating knowledge products and updating the shared Teams space. - Takes minutes and other related reporting tasks as needed.

Qualifications/special skills

A recognized 1st level degree in (international relations, development economics,) or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 1 year of work experience in development coordination and/or economic analysis is required. Demonstrated knowledge of the 2030 Agenda and the 6 transitions is desirable. International experience particularly in the field of international cooperation is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
