ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:

WFP Nordic Office presence in Copenhagen provides a strategic entry point to the Nordic governments – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden – combined the 4th largest overall government donor to WFP (2020) and top donors of flexible funding. Through proactive advocacy, effective positioning, trends analysis and engagement the office creates enabling environments to protect and further increase Nordic government funding, builds informed constituencies and safeguards public support to strengthen resourcing and operational partnerships to maximize impact for a world with zero hunger.

JOB PURPOSE:

Actively contribute to as well as facilitate the work of senior staff to effectively position WFP with public, private and external partners to attract policy support, resources, technical assistance and innovative solutions to advance the work of WFP.

The Partnerships and Communications Consultant, a junior consultancy position in Copenhagen, Denmark, will work under the shared supervision of the Communications and Partnerships Officer and the Director of WFP’s Nordic Office.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (Not all-inclusive):

Advocacy and direct dialogue:

  • Carry out national political surveillance on issues related to the work and mandate of WFP and report on relevant developments in government policies.
  • Monitor trends and issues which impact hunger and food security and identify opportunities for WFP to influence key stakeholders through strategic advocacy and positioning.
  • Maintain close relationships to national partner organizations – such as governments, civil society organizations, NGOs, stand-by partners and others – to jointly position the fight against hunger as a key global priority.
  • Provide support to WFP Nordic Office Director drafting briefings, talking points, presentations etc. in preparation for representational obligations such as speaking engagements, briefings, interviews and other.
  • Plan and coordinate conferences, debates and other activities to advocate WFP’s mandate and key priorities. Provide assistance to the planning, management and roll-out of meetings and visits.
  • Initiate and contribute to Nordic, global and UN interagency advocacy, communication, and fundraising campaigns.
  • Host visits and undertake presentations to key stakeholders and the broader public to position the work and mandate of WFP.

Online and social media coordination:

  • Identify opportunities to engage Nordic key stakeholders and the broader public through online and social media, with a goal of securing continued awareness, engagement and fundraising.
  • Generate original and impactful donor specific visibility content for use across a range of integrated online and social media platforms, to support Nordic fundraising efforts.
  • Manage the WFP Nordic social and online media platforms posting dynamic and engaging content to further strengthen networking opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members in HQ, RB and CO on social media and web content ideas for enhanced positioning and donor visibility.
  • Write, edit and produce platform-specific content for WFP’s social and online media platforms that reflects WFP’s key priorities and objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to engage and influence broader audiences on social media with an aim of strengthening WFP’s community base.
  • Community management: Monitor, respond and engage with followers on social media and online platforms. Escalate reputational risk issues in a timely manner.
  • Analyze metrics and provide actionable data and insights as well as reports demonstrating the impact/outcome of activities.

Communication:

  • Support WFP Nordic Office Director in outreach to Nordic media assisting in the preparation of accurate and timely information.
  • Monitor trends and issues which impact hunger and food assistance and identify opportunities for WFP to influence public debate on main corporate priorities.
  • Produce and translate corporate news releases, statements, op-eds etc. and support distribution to relevant news and media outlets.
  • Monitor national media to mitigate reputational risks and contribute to daily reports for INTHENEWS.
  • Maintain/update contact list of journalists and media outlets.

General:

  • Assist with setting-up strategies and work plans for WFP’s Nordic Office.
  • Handle inquiries on issues related to operations, partner, fundraising or career opportunities and refer to appropriate level, as required.
  • Any other tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

University degree in Communications, Marketing & PR, Political Science, International Development, International Relations or related fields.

Experience:

1 year of work experience in advocacy and communications, partnership and project management.

Knowledge and skills:

Ability to build and sustain effective, collaborative relationships with appropriate stakeholders and contacts to raise the profile of WFP, build relationships and further organizational aims.

Ability to track and analyze relevant political and technical data and prepare briefs, talking points or other relevant material to help raise resources for operations.

Possess basic understanding of government strategies.

Strong advocacy and presentational skills with demonstrated ability to develop powerful narratives by using data analysis to enable action-oriented discussions with partners.

Ability to develop effective relationships with partners and to explore new areas to scale-up existing activities and researched new opportunities.

Skills and professional experience in coordination and project management.

Strong writing, presentation and communications skills including ability to write well-crafted online and social media content, press releases and other communications material.

Knowledge and passion for digital media.

Strong analytical and reporting skills for continued evaluation and improvement of functions and activities.

Has motivated team spirit and contributes to an inclusive and sound working environment.

Language:

Fluency (level C) in English language and in Swedish language.
