Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

This position is based within External Relations Unit for the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP). At the regional office, External Relations is in charge of building partnerships with private sector entities as well as bilateral partners, non-profit organisations, the media and the youth. External Relations also provides strategic advice and technical support to both the regional office and country offices in Advocacy and Communications in Asia and the Pacific.

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Responsibilities/ Learning objectives for the internship in this area.

Monitor social media channels and trends developing monthly reports to monitor engagement Develop engaging advocacy and communications materials for on and offline youth-centric communications and media campaign Support Country Offices, Communications Focal Points, Programme colleagues and other non-UN stakeholders on corporate communications areas of work and reporting of results

1) Supporting the Regional Office to develop communication materials and deliver its daily communication efforts

  • Under the guidance Regional Communication Specialist, the intern will support teams in the regional office to develop communication materials such as presentations, templates, etc.
  • Will assist the Regional Communications Specialist in communications activities such as events, launches, review processes of UN Women illustrated annual report.

    2) Monitoring of social media channels and development of monthly social media reports

  • Under the guidance of the Regional Communications Specialist, the intern will support the Regional Office’s social media channels through monthly reporting on reach, engagement and performance of social media campaigns and posts and making key recommendations to attract the youth group in particular.

  • Monitoring all social media channels and engaging audience as necessary

    3) Development and scheduling of high-quality communication materials

  • Supporting Communications Officers in the region to identify and develop key external communication materials, including thematic briefs, statements, brochures, posters, videos, photography, infographics, etc.

  • Scheduling content on Hootsuite or other channels as needed.

Functional Competencies:

  • Prefer experiences in communications, journalism, marketing, advocacy, or related field preferably with a Thai company or a public entity,
  • Background in online design programmes such as Canva,
  • Experience and knowledge of the use of social media.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: Mass Communications, Journalism, Advertising, Marketing, Languages or other relevant subjects is required,
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation, or Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Renumeration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
