Result of Service Incoming staff receive adequate training in the specialized work of the Office of the UN Ombudsman and Mediation Services and are appropriately equipped to carry out their functions according to the applicable terms of reference of the Office and in line with professional standards.

Expected duration The two (2) experts are expected to work from 1 February 2022 to 30 June 2022, subject to the availability of funds.

Duties and Responsibilities The Office of the UN Ombudsman and Mediation Services (UNOMS) in the UN Secretariat makes available the services of confidential and impartial persons to support the Secretariat global staff population in addressing workplace conflict through informal means. To this end, the Office provides a range of specialized alternative dispute resolution services through Headquarters and seven (7) other locations.

UNOMS is seeking the services of two (2) experts to support the induction and training of new staff in the Office, with a focus on the main principles and tools of workplace conflict resolution and its application in the UN System under the relevant terms of reference ST/SGB/2016/7.

Reporting to Chief of Office in UNOMS, the experts will provide expertise and training in ombudsing and mediation and its practical application within the UN System.

The two (2) experts will undertake the following tasks:

- Review existing training materials for the induction of new staff and update them in line with the principles and standard practices of ombudsman and mediators in the UN System (3 days). - Prepare a set of induction materials and resources for incoming new staff (1 day). - Prepare and conduct a virtual induction training (4 days). - Provide additional coaching to new staff following the induction training (3 days). - Prepare a set of recommendations for further areas of development of the participants (1 day)

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences, organizational development, public administration, human resources management, law, and related fields. Training and experience in alternative dispute resolution in the workplace.

Experience: A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience preferably at the international levels working with diverse audiences. Experience in the design and delivery of training programmes. Experience in coaching and mentoring. Relevant experience working in alternative dispute resolution within the UN System and knowledge of the UN’s internal justice system is highly desirable.

Skills: Experience in conducting training and workshops in a virtual environment.

Language: English and/or French required. Additional fluency in UN official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) is highly desirable.
