You have:
- The ideal candidate should have undergone emergency medical technician training at St. John school of First Aid and safety or any other recognized institution.
- Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) would be desirable.
- Registered by the Kenya Council of Emergency Technicians.
- Experience in a refugee setting is an added advantage.
- At least 2 years of experience in a hospital setting post registration.
Job Description
- Response to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured, and to transport/escort the patient to a medical facility. - Assists with managing the dispatch desk - scheduling movement of ambulances efficiently and dispatching them appropriately.
Key Responsibilities
The paramedic is directly responsible to the Nursing Officer In Charge and will carry out the following duties:
- Response to emergency calls, provide immediate care to the critically ill and injured, during transport/escort the patient to a medical facility. Facilitate smooth handover of patients to the referral facility. - Ensure triage of patients in waiting bay or during emergencies, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases. - Render emergency medical and or trauma care, to adults, children and infants based on assessment findings. Duties include but are not limited to:
-opening and maintaining an airway;
-ventilating patients;
-administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
- providing pre-hospital emergency medical care of simple and multiple system trauma (such as: controlling hemorrhage, treatment of shock, bandaging wounds, immobilization of painful/swollen/deformed extremities, immobilization of painful/swollen/deformed neck/spine,
-providing emergency medical care (e.g. assist in emergency childbirth, manage general medical complaints etc.)
- S/he constantly assesses the patient enroute to the hospital, administers additional care as indicated or directed by medical control. - Organize and carry out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, as well as assist them during consultations/ daily rounds and other medical procedures. - Ensure team and patients safety during Mass casualty incidents - Ensure proper and complete, comprehensive documentation of patient condition - Know, promote, implement and always follow universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensure high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. - Maintains familiarity with specialized equipment used by the service, attends continuing education and refresher training programs as required by employers, medical control, licensing or certifying agency. - Complies with regulations on the handling of the deceased, notifies authorities and arranges for protection of property and evidence at the scene. - Maintains familiarity with specialized equipment used by the service
Reporting and communication
- Ensure proper and complete, comprehensive documentation of patient condition, all interventions and advice provided in the patient forms and/or medical legal documents as per protocols. - Attend and facilitate Continuous Medical Education. - Compile and submit weekly/monthly HIS reports. - Monitor and supervise proper usage of supplies as well as maintain adequate supplies and buffer stock.
Operations
- Properly handling emergency calls including communicating with the caller, gathering pertinent information and responding to and advising the caller appropriately. - Functions within the scope of care as defined by Kenyan law and local regulatory agencies.
