The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. WFP is currently seeking motivated and qualified candidates to enroll in the 2023 Summer Internship Programme.

The position will be based in Beirut, Lebanon. The internship will be for the period of 6 months from 1 June 2023.

Basic Eligibility Criteria:

A. Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme (for example, Bachelor’s degree) from a recognised university and have completed at least two years of the programme. Candidates should have attended classes in the past 12 months; OR B. Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (for example, a master’s degree) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the past 12 months; OR C. Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university; AND D. Be fluent in English. Fluency in other WFP official and working languages is always an asset and may be an additional requirement at some duty stations; AND E. Be fit to travel to, and work at, the duty station of the internship; AND F. Not be sons, daughters, brothers or sisters of WFP employees; AND G. The Programme will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education

Accountabilities:

Data Collection: • Work with WFP contracted retailers and various software providers to collect itemized sales data from WFP contracted retailers • Filter and clean data to ensure data integrity and accuracy of retail reporting • Coordinate with Field Office team to address data related issues • Aggregate other data sources available (third party monitoring, internal field monitoring, beneficiary feedback & complaints, etc.) to input into retail dashboards Data Analysis & Visualization: • Interpret data, analyse results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports from a variety of Retail data sources to support decision-making • Create dashboards and reports to support CO Management and Field Offices including but not limited to: price monitoring, category management, etc. • Acquire data from data sources such as publications, country statistics and external sources on the Retail industry • Identify, analyse and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets to support Retail Operations • Analyse third party price monitoring data to construct price index for measurement of shop performance and recommendation of prices • Conduct cost-efficiency analysis for WFP programmes utilizing price data from Supply Chain, Retail prices, and Third-party price data Other: • Support ad-hoc reporting requests when needed by CO Management or Field Offices • Work closely with the team to prioritize business and information needs • Perform other related duties as required.

Desired skills and knowledge:

• Currently enrolled in a university programme, or recently graduated (within the past twelve months) in Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Statistics, Economics, or another related field. • Knowledge of data collection tools: FTP servers, etc and ability of analysis of big data. • Command of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, macro functions…) • Knowledge of SQL; MS SQL Server is a plus • Knowledge of data visualization tools including Tableau • Familiarity in in the fields of Statistics, Economics, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other related fields. • Knowledge/ familiarity in Retail or Retail insights regarding data is a plus.
