Overview

You have:

  • A master’s degree in administration, Management, Finance or a related field from a recognized university.
  • A bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience would be considered.
  • Proficiency in English is a must.
  • Knowledge of French will constitute an advantage.
  • Working experience in Administration, Finance and Operations positions will constitute an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Office of the Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (OSE) was established with the mandate to enhance the voices of women in peace processes across the continent. The activities of the Special Envoy are anchored on the pillars of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda, namely the prevention of violence against women, the protection of women's rights, the participation of women at all levels of decision-making in the prevention of conflict and peacebuilding and the recognition and incorporation of gender dimensions in reconstruction and recovery endeavours. As part of UNOAU’s longstanding and continued partnership with the African Union Commission in promoting the Women, Peace, and Security agenda in Africa within the joint UN – AUC farmwork for enhanced partnership in peace and security, UNOAU is seeking to recruit a consultant to serve as an Operations Associate to support the African Union Office of Special Envoy on Women, Peace, and Security in its activities about administration, finances and logistics operations. The Office of the Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (OSE) was established with the mandate to enhance the voices of women in peace processes across the continent. The activities of the Special Envoy are anchored on the pillars of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda, namely the prevention of violence against women, the protection of women's rights, the participation of women at all levels of decision-making in the prevention of conflict and peacebuilding and the recognition and incorporation of gender dimensions in reconstruction and recovery endeavours. Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff of the African Union Office of Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security, the Operations Associate will support the Office in the following functions.  Assist the Chief of Staff to prepare the Office work plan and monitor its implementation.  Manage and update the Office database of WPS stakeholders and Office records and archive systems.  Support the chief of staff in the preparation of budget requests for approval by the Chairperson of the Commission.  Follow-up requests made to various AU administrative service departments/ units (AHRM, PBFA, PS Finance, Protocol, etc.…).  Prepare reimbursement claims for OSE workshop/events participants in line with AU Procedures.  Prepare financial reports for conferences/workshops/ etc.., conducted by the Office.  Support the OSE in the preparation and rollout of consultative meetings, workshops, conferences, and other work-associated events.  Assist the office in coordinating activities related to office maintenance, IT, security, Transport, and similar services.  Liaise with the relevant department for supply of stationary, office equipment and consumables.  Carry out any other work-related activities as may be required by the Special Envoy and or the Chief of Staff.

Qualifications/special skills

A master’s degree in administration, Management, Finance or a related field from a recognized university. A bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience would be considered. Working experience in Administration, Finance and Operations positions will constitute an advantage.

Languages

Proficiency in English is a must. Knowledge of French will constitute an advantage.

Additional Information

This consultant will be based at the AU Office of Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security and will be working under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff of the Special Envoy WPS.
