This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

We help countries to develop policies, capacities and build resilience to achieve and sustain development results. UNDP Nepal has been supporting the Nepalese people in their efforts against poverty since 1963. Much of this support has gone to strengthening the capacity of government, civil society, and community groups to fight poverty, and to bring national and international development partners together to design and implement successful projects that contribute to Nepal’s development objectives. UNDP Nepal is seeking dynamic, motivated, and competent expert who is passionate about contributing to making this world a better place.

Within the delegated authority and under the primary supervision of Administrative Analyst and secondary supervision of Procurement Associate or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Operations Assistant will perform the following:

Register agency procurement request and support procurement team to initiate procurement process by raising e-requisitions in Atlas; Keep track of procurement processes including delivery of goods and services, acceptance by agency and payment; Assist Admin team to raise Travel Requests (TRs), Travel Claims (TCs), Expense Reports (ERs) and Non-Travel Requests in ATLAS T&E Module for Agencies; Support in maintain inventory and asset records; Follow up with concerned staff for providing all the supporting documents related to travel; Assist to finance team to create receipt in system, submit the payment request in oracle system and ensure the proper and timely documentation of the supporting documents; Assist to team to ensure the timely action has been taken as per SLA/SOP timeline for the service request received from agency; Assist to communicate and provide the information as and when required to support in providing client oriented services; Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programmed mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (For instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results, and opportunities. Contribute articles/write- ups on field experience.

the UN or other international development organization is an asset; technical knowledge, good oral and written skills; excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, experience and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; sound security awareness; have affinity with or interest in operations and finance activities, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Living conditions in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, are good. In Kathmandu comfortable inexpensive flats (furnished and unfurnished) are available. Imported and local food and clothing are abundantly available. Water is in somewhat short supply and not safe to drink without treatment. Public transport is easily available and generally reliable.

Kathmandu has a temperate climate with coldest temperature reaching just above zero at the night during the winter and mild but humid during the monsoon period, mid-June to end September. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.
