This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

UNDP in Sri Lanka is recognizing internationally and moving to an integrated collaborative business model. Internally an energetic and innovative team will converge around the planning, design, implementation and quality assurance of an integrated programme in a fast-paced environment. Under the guidance and supervision of the Programme Associate, operation assistant provides administrative and financial services ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency of work. S/he is responsible for establishing and maintaining good working relationships with related government officials, with civil society representatives and all other related partners. The main areas of responsibility of the Operations Assistant will be programme support, administrative, financial, logistical and secretarial work within UNDP Office in Sri Lanka. The Programme Operations Assistant works in close collaboration with the Programme team, Operations team, Management Support and Partnerships team, Programme and other teams in the CO.

Under the overall supervision of the Team Lead – Climate and Environment (CET)and the direct supervision of Programme Associate - CET, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:

• Provides support for the administration and implementation of Programme/operations strategies focusing on achievement of the following results : • Drafts/produces various documents to help with management monitoring and evaluation of project programmes • Checking programme related finance reports • Provide effective support to administration of budgets and functioning of the optimal cost recovery system focusing on achievement of the following results • Maintenance of proper filing system for project records and documents • Maintenance of the CET share point update, project Asset/Non capital/Custodian registers • Follow up on deadlines, commitments made, actions taken and coordination of collection and submission of the reports to head of unit • Assists in the organization and coordination of all existing and future programme/project activities • Drafts correspondence, meeting arrangements, takes instructions on a variety of project related subject-matters. • Tracking and preparing spreadsheets on mobilized resources • Provides logistical, administrative and secretarial support and related processes, and programme management; • Provides accounting and administrative support focusing on achievement of the following results • Proper control of the supporting documents for payments, preparation of the supporting documents for payments and financial reports for projects • Processing of transactions, ensuring that they are correctly recorded and posted in UNDP’s financial management system (Atlas) in conformity with the internal expenditures control system • Timely corrective actions on erroneous data in Atlas • Compilation of data for internal/external audit • Extraction of data from various sources • Administrative and logistics support to handle international travel for Country office staff and government counter parts, local missions, hotel reservations, logistic arrangements • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Colombo is located on the Western Province of Sri Lanka and is the commercial capital of the country. Colombo is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to the administrative capital, Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte. The climate is temperate all throughout the year, but humidity is usually high. From March to April the temperature averages around 31 degrees Celsius (88 degrees Fahrenheit). The only major change in the Colombo weather occurs during the monsoon seasons from May to August and October to January when heavy rainfall occurs.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
